Since the PS3 only supports FAT32 external drives, you wouldn't be able to put a BluRay rip on the external, file sizes are too big.

You can still stream. I have an 8.2gb .vob 720p 5.1 Dolby on my ps3 hdd right now.

I use Tversity. When you're browsing files on the ps3's media server menu just hit triangle and copy to copy them over. Tversity works with .vob's and .mp4's which wmp has troubles with I think so thats why I don't use it

i also use Tversity but if i download a renammed BD .mkv to .vob the PS3 dose not play the file and say it is corrupted. The codec will be mpeg2 so this cant be work.I will try and rename it to .mp4 this is the supported HD formate and i hope it will be work.

When did I say rename the file? You have to demux the mkv and remux is at ac3 audio in a .vob container. OR Demux the mkv convert audio to stereo and remux it as an mp4. This process is made easy with programs such as Ps3Video9 (using Mkv Passthrough) or MKVtoVOB.

no you dono say rename it but i read it on a few other forums: "Just rename it"!
Yea sure.....
THX man this helps a lot.I have a home cinema but it cant play dolby from input. There for i only have stereo with subwoofer on my PS3 ill take mp4 for my vids and to same time this will save some space on my HDD.
How many time need this on your machine?Becouse mine needs 18 hours to convert a DVD to mp4 720p/1080p.And there are another few programs running like F@H,Kaspersky....
Now i have a AMD sempron 1,8GHz 3000+ @ 2,01GHz 3300+ 2GB DDR RAM.Its a good cpu but now with converting vids i realize its time for a new system.
I thinking about to buy a AMD phenom x4 9500 8GB DDR2 RAM Dual Channel.

Hey. Yeah it usually takes REALLY long if you encode it. The best thing to do is try the option in the settings for PS3 Video 9 that says "MKV Passthrough / 160kbps Stereo" which should take about 20 minutes on your pc. As for the Phenom x4, as much as I love AMD, the intel Quad core is better lol. Good Luck with your videos!

Please what?20 minutes?  blink.gif
I tryed to convert the mkv to a 1080p mp4 but after 12 Hours the process only would be @ 21% so i canceled the converting.
Hmm.....you say the Quad2Do will be better?Than ive to give a try and make a comparson with both.
One more time THX  smile.gif

Some information about the BD rip: 720p NTSC x264 AC3.
Im a PAL user (if this make a different for vids) and every time i read some thing about the HD codec should be h264.

Hey. Yeah the mkv passthrough is pretty buggy so it doesnt work half the time. If you do the conversion for 720p that takes really long it should work no problem at all.

Yea but i canceled it.Becouse i want to convert some DVDs to 1080p first. So i searched the WEB and found the mkv2vob,TSRemuxe and AutoMen38 TOOL.Now i understood a littel bit more.
I delated the first vid becouse it was in english but i have a few another x264/h264 vid so lets go....

So if some mkv“s wont work reencoding is the only way to get it worked.THX

ps. i want to say that Tversity will be more comfortable but with RedKawa Fileserver the download will be faster and it could be done in the background. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Used to have the same problem with the 360 only recognising FAT32 drives so I used a programme called Macdrive. This formatted the external HD to Mac standard which the 360 was able to recognise as it is set up to be iPod friendly. I was then able to put 10gig BD rips on there no problem.

Maybe this would work with the PS3 too? I don't have a PS3 just yet so I cant test.
