Title: Infectus Ps3 Nand Modchip
Post by: elcazador on September 14, 2007, 11:16:00 PM
Modchip homepage

Modchip can be purchased from here
PICTURES HERE

    *  PS3 NAND FLASHER, allow to read and write nand flash of PS3.
    * Every BIOS is signed for every consoles, so is not possible to use a BIOS from a different PS3 in another.
    * Right now is possible to backup the firmware and restore it in the same console, good for BIOS backup, to update and downgrade the firmware of the console
    * PS3 NAND FLASHER allow the developer to study and analyze the PS3 BIOS in a easy way
    * The first work to be done is to allow our users to flash directly the PS3 BIOS by USB. So no more problem with firmwares, you can install everything you want, when you want. All the complications due to firmware versions that cannot be downgraded will not bother you anymore.

------------------------------
I personally use this modchip. This opens a lot of doors for us. I have downgraded - upgraded with this modchip. You can also analyze fw in C++, Binary and Hex. This modchip requires soldering of 35+ wires.

What region PS3 did you mod?  Also what version firmware have you tested for downgrading/upgrading?  I have the infectus and USA PS3 but have not installed it yet.  Any additional information I should know about the install procecedure that is not covered in the official diagrams from infectus?

Thanks.

Hello,
elcazador here. Lost my password for that account. Had to make a new one. Yes I have a USA NTSC PS3 too. Currently I am using fw 1.80. I downgraded from fw 1.90.
There is two version of motherboard. PAL and NTSC. In PAL both NAND Chip is on top. In NTSC one is on top and one is on bottom. This should not hinder you from using the modchip. Enjoy!

Thanks for the reply.  Glad to see that it's confirmed working on USA consoles.  I'll get started on it in a few days.  Will let everyone know if I run into any problems.

There are no problems. Cause I use it too. LOL. Took something like 35-40 wires to solder.

How long are your wires?  I read on the infectus site that there are problems writing to flash with wires longer than a few inches.  Might get tricky since I need to run wires from both sides of the board.  You made no changes from the official diagrams, correct? (besides running to both sides of motherboard).

No volunteer to show snapshots and precise diagrams of infectus installation for original US/JAP PS3?
(especially if you found smart way to have infectus fit somewhere with short wires...)

Thanks

Here you go.
That video is showing Infectus PS3 modchip used to downgrade from 1.60 to 1.50. They used the 1.50 dump from the same machine.

I tried soldering my Infectus Ps3 modchip but its very very hard. I am still working on it. So far i can only think of downgrading the PS3 or modifying its fw dump.

i have an infectus, but i would not dare install mine on my ps3 until i see some hi-res shots of an actual install.....i damn sure cant afford to buy a new ps3.......but the infectus is going to come in handy downgrading the kernel on one of my 360s wink.gif

Ah you are quick at grabbing things. I would also like to point out that Nintendo Wii can also be fw modded with this modchip instead of using WiiKey. This modchip can access the Wii NAND and so making a fw mod.
I am actually thinking of ordering another Infectus for my 360 and one for my Wii.

Here is the install diagram for the Infectus PS3
http://www.infectus.biz/diagrams/MB%20PS3DOUBLE.jpg

and here are tutorials on how to downgrade http://www.infectus.biz/tutorials.php and downgrade software and USB drivers http://www.infectus.biz/downloads.php

So good luck. If anyone downgrades or makes backups playable would be awesome.

Let me also point out that the diagram above is for PAL PS3's. I am not very sure how to solder this on the NTSC PS3 but i believe that one NAND chip is on top and the other on bottom of the NTSC Motherboard.

yeah....i have a ntsc ps3, and im just a little skiddish about it.....if i mess up something on the 360 i can fix it, and the wii's are just fairly inexpensive(and im already running a yoasm setup on it)....but i will wait for someone to take some snapshots of a ntsc board before i mess with it, and i also dont have any reason to really put one in just yet, i cant downgrade firmwares right now because i dont have a dump of any older firmwares from my specific console, oh well

edit: i also cant seem to load the infectus page...anyone else having problems?...i also cant stress enough just how hard my wife would kick my ass if i brick a console that we payed $600 for

Yes I understand your situation. I have a 60GB PS3 which I got for $200 (Don't ask how), unfortunately no backup playable mods are being released so I have to do something myself because I don't buy games.
So I upgraded my PS3 to 250GB SATA 2.5" which cost me $200 and I bought only one game and thats Ninja Gaiden Sigma.
Then I bought PS3 HDXT which allows me to use IDE Drives or SATA II drives (Imagine Seagate 1TB Barracuda (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)) for $45 from htttp://www.consolesource.com
After that I bought the Infectus PS3 Modchip from http://www.hardstore.com/default.asp?cmd=g...Type=-1&l=2 which cost me $80
The diagrams and tutorials were all on http://www.infectus.biz which is down sometimes. But in the diagrams they didn't mention the diagram is for PAL systems.

Next I opened my PS3 and took a hell lot of pictures while opening it here http://s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa138/e...%20disassembly/

I also took a few pictures of the modchip and the HDXT
http://s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa138/e...infectus%20ps3/ and http://s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa138/ejsid/PS3%20HDXT/

So now after I disassembled my PS3 i saw that one NAND chip was on top and the other on bottom. But still the NAND chips did not differ much and everything could be soldered. I still have not soldered it and there is 0% chance of you bricking anything unless you burn something while soldering since i use a Weller WESD51.

Sorry about the long post (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

well i use a $15 radio shack special, but im not worried about burning anything or lifting traces.....i just used that soldering iron to do my wii d2b with the cut legs, so i can work with it in tight spaces....but really i would get no benefit from installing it right now......hopefully something will happen pretty soon to make it worth my while.......while i am not particularly concerned with loading isos i would like some homebrew apps, perhaps a kick ass media center(since i dont really like any of the ps3 games out right now), i do own ninja gaiden and heavenly sword

I now understand what you said. I just happened to bridge the legs. The solder filled between 3 legs and now they are bridged. I will just have to seperate them but thats going to be a heck of a job. =(

just put some flux on a piece of desoldering braid.......that will take it off in half a sec

This might be a bit off-topic, but does this chip or the Infectus 2 for that matter, once installed in a PS3, have any effect with online play?
