Second, if you get an infectus chip before you upgrade, you'll always be able to downgrade your firmware, so it's still a moot point. This could be huge, or it could be nothing, but it's certainly a cause for optimism for true unhindered homebrew on the ps3.
Unfortunately, a lot of people already upgraded, especially those playing online, as upgrades were mandatory. Also, new consoles I would assume, are shipped with firmware higher than 1.11 (since the console is now on 1.80). So, we really would need a more universal workaround.
Still, an encouraging first step to say the least!
