Paradox added this "special note" in the NFO of their latest release (MotorStorm_USA_PS3-PARADOX):
Hmzzz i think we have news to give do we? Ever wondered why the PS3 is such a better machine than a xbox360? simply because they implement too much stuff in one time! "SCEI" dont do that, you need to learn a bit more from Microsoft on this part even when they have forgotten a hypervision hack on kernel 4532 and 4548 they fixed it very fast! And what do we see on the PS3? Up until firmware 1.51 we still see holes! Why? You guys dont have the right persons to work with or is it just the pressure from the big boss? So for now dont update higher than 1.51 since 1.54 hasnt yet been tested, and 1.51 had a few tiny things fixed, but it didnt stop us much :-D Ohhh btw ever wondered if those updates are required on a disc? Actually all games up to now work without any update At least work fine on 1.32 :-) Thats all for now! So seeya tiff tiff and bye bye

I have no doubt that Sony understands exactly why the Xbox one made great strides toward the end of its life. If they would have given the last gen console another 5 years I think the Xbox may have pulled out a win.
Its obvious they realized the driving factors behind the modding market. I believe that both companies to some degree have a new philosophy; free games sells machines, sell lots of machines THEN lock it down! I expect both to put the clamp down when they feel comfortable with their numbers which fortunately for the community could be never since the stakes are so high and the fight is so even.
I think Sony probably understands that they killed the momentum that the PSP had with the ever constant updates making is undesirable to attempt to run homebrew. Now it seems the buzz is gone! I wouldnt expect them to do that to the PS3 right away.

I agree with you. The firmware mod for the 360 hasn't allowed any real cheating going on XBox live like with the first XBox, so for now, why not sell more consoles because their system is selling lots because it's easy to pirate. They have come out with a few new drives to make it harder, and that's probably to make developers happy who are screaming that their games are being pirated and sold on the black market but how hard is it to make a drive with a once only flash or non-writeable flash. They eventually did it with the 1.6 version of the XBox's when they eliminated the TSOP flashability, but right now it's keeping them ahead of Sony. If they wanted they could have put black goop over all the ALT LPC points and stopped modchips all together except for the diehard modder or did a new dashboard update that stopped softmods, but they didn't care at the point. They simply stopped you from playing Live if you were modded so they could keep the integrity of they pay-for-play service. If there is a PS3 loader that comes out that lets people plug in a 750GB drive into their Sony and put all the games they want on it for free, PS3 sale will go through the roof and I bet Sony will be quick to say lots and maybe try and stop, but secretly they want to beat MS, so they'll let it slide for a while.

If by "hacked" you mean "can run games off hdd" the PS3 has in fact been hacked for a few weeks now, just not with version 1.3something or higher.

Well that blows, I hadn't turned my PS3 on in like two months, and decided to update yesterday to 1.54! Oh well, maybe they'll test it on 1.54 and see that it still works.
At least they've decided to write more than one sentence this time, it was really cryptic stuff before.

dude people hack games with the 360 on live.
especially in GOW
-
They still expect to sell games and online services to compensate the loss for each console sold. So I doubt they count on hacking to boost console sales...
The attempt to please people insterested into "open" hardware is the alternate OS possibility (but I doubt that will be enough since half the memory and GPU access is trashed on the way...)
To people insterested in full homebrew... once gain... stop updating and be patient. I will take a close look at RSX...

I think that the ease to hack a console is accualy going to boost the sale thats a fact. Thou whatever it is good for the console companies thats another question. Do i need to mention DreamCast? Maybe THE most terrible misstake ever
They had invested a shit lot of money of there security systen and it was "hacked" coz of a misstake.
Anyway I do think that they are going to try to prevent people of accessing there online services with hacked consoles. And when online services getting more and more interesting and a bigger part of the consoles that are sold nowdays people are going to be more carefull maybe when modding there consoles. I would sure not want to loose the online service for my xbox360 for ex. And that can even boost the console sell even more. A person buy a console, he/she modd it to make it run homebrew etc. Then the person see that "oh i dont have access to online services anymore... shit there is so much i can not do" and buy another console that is not modded to be able to access the online services.
I think that hacking is good for the sale. And if Sony manage to sell shit lot more consoles then m$ the first year then its great publisity so i can agree that sony prob not going to make a mayor move to prevent homebrew on ps3 at least for some time now
-
Nonsense. Console hacks does not boost sales. If that was reason to keep a console alive and selling well, then the Dreamcast would have been the most sucessfull console ever. The Dreamcst could boot from CD-Rs without *ANY* hardware or software modification at all, and still it took a hard beat from the PS One (not even the PS2). If that was true, the PSP would also be a hit, as everyone can softmod it to run homebrew and pirate software. Once again this is not going to happen, and the PSP will never sell as well as the DS.
What sell consoles are games and innovation. Maybe for some persons the hability to hack the console will be a great plus, but that's not a trend. For the mainstream market, the games makes the decision for them.

The DS is easier to hack than the PSP. The only thing more difficult, but not impossible, is watching movies.

people don't hack in that game you nub, there's glitchs in that game jut like halo's super jump.
and if you're talking about people's amazing skill... there are some people that are just crazy at that game.
like me for instance :-D
I think you are the noob here, sorry. The config file in GOW can be changed as long as you keep the checksum intact (I think, not too sure on the security thing as I am not interested in doing it myself). So, yes.. there are people CHEATING on GOW, its not just glitches

Wow - I didn't know that. Let's hope #2 doesn't have the same problem.
-
you can! you can change one of the files in the game, its not signed for some reason
-
Yes its possible. Who are you calling a clown?
You mean the guy who actually KNOWS what he's talking about?
-
QUOTE(n99wby @ Mar 12 2007, 08:00 PM)

Dont listen to this clown...
You cant hack in GOW at all... let him try changing content on the disc then playing it... then he wil understand how the 360 works... rather than spout shit about XBLive just because hes shit at a game
Actually YOU are wrong and he is right. You can changing any unsigned content on the disc! Many things like the config file is text and can be easily changed. You just cant change any executables.

I would send you a link, but it's against rules and I don't care to share the info. I would never mod online and hate when people do, I only checked the validity of the info a few days ago when I first heard it, I can assure you that GOW can be modded and played online and you are dead wrong about it not being able to be modded.
I hope M$ will fix it though, it's what ruined Halo2 (other than bungie making it wrong from the start).

They are waiting for the european launch, March 23rd.
Because there is still a small (very very small) chance european PS3's may have some left hole allowing to use an exploit.
If they released the details of exploit earlier, this (very very small) chance would be zero.
-
Well once it is released enjoy it while you can, sounds like an easy patch. I'm sure the hackers will own the PS3 in good time though.

Are PS3 firmware updates only available from sony or is there a way to obtain an older version than 1.54?

You can find older versions, you probably will have to search on google a bit..
