Hey all
I got an used Xbox yesterday, where i got to play about 10 min of Halo before I got a white screen. After rebooting i got a mix of error 13 and 21. I tried to follow the guide at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FEgSjw7Rxs
First I tried on my main desktop computer (with Vista) where i couldn't boot up when the disk was connected (just freezes before loading OS). Then I tried using an old desktop computer. I managed to get it as primary master and got into Windows XP after a few tries, but Xplorer360 couldn't find my disk.
After that i tried a few other programs, but suddenly I couldn't boot my desktop computer anymore (nothing on screen) - even without anything on the IDE controller :S
The Xbox is now showing error 9.
I'm thinking about trying a new HDD and Xboxhdm, but i haven't got a backup of my eeprom.
The box is modded (dunno anything about the chip), so I was wondering if I can just use any eeprom.bin I can get my hands on or I really need that specific one for my xbox?
Anyone got another idea? Otherwise it was 10 expensive minutes :S

Describe the flubber animation when xbox boots up - colors, logos etc - this will help us tell if it was chipped or softmod and hence the correct remedy.
-
Hey
About 1-2 sec after i press the power button i get a green thing in the middle which, after some time, expands to a Xbox logo (should be the original one). However, when the logo is shown, there is no "Microsoft ..." text beneath it (but ive notised it right before the error is shown when I have a original game in).
One more thing: I've been told from the former owner that i have to hold the white button down to boot into XBMC, but when i got this information it was already too late, so I've never tried it.
I'll double check this when i get home.
PS.: Sorry about the delay, but apparently I did something wrong when i subscribed to this post since I never got a mail :S

The email subscription to post was turned off long ago.
From the description of the flubber animation, you have a softmod since it sounds like stock xbox.
Try changing the IDE cable.
What hotswapping method did you use?
-
Hi again
I already tried to change the IDE cable.. Did not work.
The hot-swapping method is the one shown in the Youtube video linked (unplug IDE cable from Xbox when the big X is there, power on computer and pause it before the harddrives is detected and finally plug in the IDE cable from the computer)
I tried with another HDD (not at all prepared for Xbox) but got an error 13, which i guess means that the first disk is toast and the Xbox should work again if i get the new disk formatted and locked to the Xbox...

Correct, your initial drive is likely cactus.
Sounds to me the console is already chipped or flashed, otherwise that new drive would've given an error 05. That's good - It means you don't need to lock it, and you should be able to boot off burnt discs.
Grab a copy of either Slayers or Auto Installer Deluxe (AID) and boot the console with that in the DVD drive and the new HDD hooked up. You should be able to set yourself back up from there, though you might need to experiment with that white button.

Found a link to slayers 2.7, so ill try that when i get home (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Thx a lot for your help so far.. I'll report my results later

I've tried it now, but with no success... I still get an error 13 with a new disk in and slayers/AID...
Could be one of two things i guess:
1. The Thomson DVD drive is toast (could try with http://xbox-scene.com/articles/dvddrive.php ????)
2. The modchip is disabled, which means i need to enable it. The white button doesn't seem to have any effect (have tried both before i pressed power button and just after). Any ideas of how to do this besides the white button?

This is an image of the mod chip (guessing it's the red one) if it helps:

forget that
Just got it working, by figuring out that it's an Aladdin XT chip with which I need to hold the power button a sec when booting (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
AID is currently loaded

PROBLEM SOLVED!
Thank you for your help
Running with evox+xbmc on 120gb HDD (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Well done. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
You might consider googling for T3CH's site so you can get an updated version of XBMC. AID's must be pretty old by now.

It's AID version 4.30 where the XBMC should be from July 30 2008
But ill try beta 2 of Atlantis (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
