Title: Soldering Problem 8163b - General Solder Help Problem!
Post by: lAze_a55 on September 10, 2008, 06:02:00 PM
There is a much simpler method of converting an 8163b. I did it on my drive. Get an LG 8050L xbox drive's controller board, trim a little plastic on the 8163b so the 8050L's board will fit and bend the large resistor down a bit, then you can just do a board swap. That way it will already be flashed correctly and you won't have to mod or fabricate the drive's power connector. It is very easy to accomplish and requires no soldering. I bet someone is bound to have a good controller board they'd part with cheap.

I have an untouched good 8163B controller board that is already flashed, but is not modded for xbox hookup.

By the way, the resistors in that image are not required for those 3 connections. They were only added as extra precaution. I think it said that somewhere in the thread where you got that from because it was the same tut I was going to use for my 8163b before I got the idea of a board swap.

Try using some flux to make it stick.

BTW I think you're in the wrong section. This should be in General Hardware/Technical Chat.
