Other than that, try burning it to different media. DVD-R CD-RW are the two best types. You may have to try different brands.

it depends on the specific error, with 13 and 14 you will be able to boot a dvd

Does the thing boot retail discs presently? If so, grab a Live compatible game (Halo 2 or later is ideal), tell it to log on, see what happens.

Though that doesn't explain why AID would give a 14. As 1HJ and Vader have mentioned, the system should boot that.
Certainly looks like the HDD is at fault and not the console (given that you get the same result regardless of which system you put the HDD in).
Take the HDD and stick it back in a computer. Does the system still recognise it?
If so, the only thing I can recommend at this point (other then getting a different drive) is to use XBoxHDM on the thing. Create a copy of what your friend has in his C partition, create an XBoxHDM disc with just that on it, and use that to partition the HDD and copy those files over.

or try running slayers boot cd cause i think i have run that with no hdd installed and it worked and try and burn it to a dvd-r u can also format the drive with slayers so i would try it first

The purpose of hotswapping is to circumvent the locking system built into a (usually stock) X-Box drive.
Your new drive has no lock, hence hotswapping is not required.
It's a technique often used with XBoxHDM, but it's not technically a part of XBoxHDM.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did an backup of my friends xbox's C-drive. I put the contents of the C-drive in the c-folder of XboxHDM and built an ISO. I used option 1 in XboxHDM: "Build a new Xbox HD from scratch" and the harddrive is now ready.
Is this it? Or do i have to lock the HD before putting the drive back to my xbox? (i'm at work so i can't try it in my box now). I have no eeporm file available, so i'll guess i can't generate any HD key?
Sorry for all these questions, but i'll never done this before

If it isn't, than an unlocked harddisk will give you an error 5 screen.
(Or no error number if the xbox is a 1.0 with a very old bios)

Next step is to lock it with the right eeprom.bin which you can obtain via the eeprom reader: http://forums.afterd...view.cfm/357863.
Otherwise the xbox will boot to error 5 as obcd has already mentioned. All softmod xbox hdd needed to be locked correctly with the right hdd password generated from eeprom's hdd key, hdd serial no and hdd model no.
