Title: Panasonic: Blu-ray Has Won
Post by: epsilon72 on June 20, 2007, 06:12:00 PM
I think this guy is jumping the gun just a little bit -- we'll probably have our answer around holiday '07, not now.

However, with enough people shouting something, the public might start to take it as "fact" as usual, and give up on HD-DVD

I have too much to say about this here

... so I'll say it here.

According to blu ray forum it seems that even non Bluray camp supporters are becoming interested in Bluray.
This follows the finalization of BD+ layer, the thing Disney and Fox were waiting before "going HD".
This will probably help BD camp (the news was posted on a previous article) and this is probably a "gone for good" message for HD-DVD camp.

Ya good read, but I can't help but notice a hint of bias towards HD-DVD in your write-up.

I personally believe it's all in the numbers, and no matter where you look all the numbers are in Blu-Ray’s favour. And I would hardly say marginally, the overwhelming support for Blu-Ray has left HD-DVD supporters noticeably rattled. You may argue that it's too early to tell but I see no foreseeable change in the future.

I thought Universal was working on that double sided disk; HD-DVD on one side Blu-Ray on the other? Although my only worry with that, is it would probably drive the manufacturing price up and that's never a good thing.

Why don't all movie studios support both formats?

As well as all others?

i was out shopping yesterday and i noticed that sony had a NEW BR player out, 499$ and it does everything. 1080p and hd 5.1 analog out. that might be even a few bucks cheaper then the comparable HD dvd player.

I was leaning on BluRay anyhow. Why? No reason. But I had a feeling a larger capacity disk would be handy for HD content. I would have been happy with HD-DVD too. That article news still doesn't mean much, we still have another year before we should decide between Blu-Ray and HD-dvd. Remember, the average guy doesn't have an HDTV anyhow. Lets just stick to our DVD up converter players. Blu-ray compared to DVD isn't like VHS to DVD. No real reason to upgrade :-)
