I don't know how true these number ratios are, but I think it's a little misleading not to include actual sales numbers. With so few HD-DVD and Blu-Ray titles being sold it seems that these ratios aren't nearly as significant as it would seem.
-
I don't care who wins, as long as this idiotic format war ends soon and I get my Lord of the Rings in 1080p.
-
I wonder if this includes bundled titles (e.g. PS3 "Talladega Nights" and HD-DVD add-on "King Kong"). I wouldn't be surprised if the PS3 was outselling the HD-DVD add-on by 10:1.
-
The Xbox HD-DVD Addon is extremely hard to come by retail stores in the UK. I've waiting for this to come out and then I can start buying my HD-DVD library. The PS3 isn't even out in the UK yet. A lot of people are probably in the same boat (for both formats) so to check figures when the hardware isn't available is kinda misleading.

totally agree, every time a store or a website lists that they have 360-HD-DVD when I try to order one its soldout !!

Here's a thought, how many standalone players have been sold on the market vs the console players? On the ps3, consumers are forced into having a BD player, so why not use it? (Pretty good Sony strategy if you ask me). I bet if MS would have incorporated the HD dvd player into the the 360 without buying it as an addon, then the story may have been different. But MS really doesn't have a huge stake in who wins the format war...well, least not as much as Sony does.
-
^ That is why Microsoft has always said, if Blu-Ray wins they will make a Blu-Ray add-on. Sony is stuck no matter what.
-
What would be really funny is if MS made a dual format add on for the xbox360...
The funny thing is that whatever format is the superior one, it is destined to lose (just look at history of the videocassette wars...the VHS was actually third in quality, when the three formats were initially being developed).
-
The only reason why this matters to the PS3 is because it makes or breaks the console. This war has nothing to do with the success of the 360. I personally could care less. I want to play PS3 games on my PS3, release some good games already!

If thats what everyone is buying then you know damn well they will!

I think that the "HD format wars" are still far from over.
Until the PS3 came out, HD-DVD was in an amazing lead over Blu-ray. But with every single PS3 having a Blu-ray player, things have changed since the holidays. The thing is that the PS3 is crippling Sony and not as many people are buying them now as they were near release date. Yet HD-DVD is still selling as many players as they were before the holidays, so HD-DVD is more than likely going to catch back up to Blu-ray. Very few dedicated Blu-ray players are being purchased, yet dedicated and add-on HD-DVD players are both about even.
PS3 has given Blu-ray the lead, for now.
-
I've been browsing the stores here for an HD-DVD 360 addon but to no avail they're all sold out.
I think that that HD-DVD hardware install base is a little larger than the Blu-RAY hardware install base.
Considering they've been sold otu for a while now.

One also has to take into account that buying a PS3 is about the same price as a standalone BD player

Patent pending, I will crush you, if you steal my idea!

ive yet to see how hd-dvd will have a chance to win this format war... blue ray will clearly win, hell with disney alone it could win lol

well look at it this way every ps3 is blueray but the only hd-dvd player at the moment is a addon. when stand alone hd-dvd players come out i bet the numbers will change. so it would seem sonys idea of pushing blueray threw the ps3 is working for now.
Stand alone HDDVD players have been out for nearly 6 months now.

Stand alone HD DVD players came out a couple months before Blu-ray players.
Blu-Ray will win this format war because of the PS3. Even if Sony only sells half of the 110+ millions units that the PS2 sold that would still mean over 50 million Blu-Ray players in people homes over the next 5+ years.
I do respect that this is a very anti-PS3 PS3 site but letÂ’s keep things in perspective. In 5 years most of us will end up owning a PS3 no matter how cool it is to trash it today.
-
all of us own a ps3 in 5 years i dont think so. we might all own wiis and 360s. you would need to go to a ps3 site to find mass amounts of ps3 owners lol. when i got my orignal xbox it was couse my ps2 died i never whent back and my v1.0 xbox is still kicking even with a bad fan.

For anyone whose was doubting the authenticity of this news, Sony has officially announced all of this.
Support HD-DVD everyone! Sony does not deserve this win considering how much better HD-DVD is in quality, and considering how poorly the PS3 was made.
