Yeah, we wouldn't want the PS3 to do TOO well would we, Sony? (IMG:

In order for the PS3 to do "too well" it needs to turn a profit. If they are barely turning a profit on the price now, how much would they lose per console if they dropped it another $100. Attach rates on games aren't high enough right now to justify a hardware price drop.

I don't think theres a need for a pricedrop, with all the recent good news for Sony the last few months, they are in a very good position... I mean, theres been 3 factors in the PS3... 1) Games 2) Price 3) BluRay/Format War
We all know games are finally here, and we all know which format won, and the price has been dropped already, I think they are looking real good...
$400 is still too much for mainstream adoption.
Just because you and I don't think it is, and see the value of it, doesn't mean the the majority of people do.

thats exactly it, even the people who would buy one as a cheap BD player are a minority. It still isnt worth £300 quid to me unless its white, has an 80gb HD, has DS3 and HD cables in the box and is fully backwards compatable.
I want this machine to play great games on, and AFAIK there still isnt any exclusives that really grab me unfortunatly (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) sure theres a bunch of great multiplat games, but the 360 will ALWAYS win that war for me, i just love them acheivements and the controller.
maybe 09 will bring me around (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
i think a price drop would be a wise move, especially if MS do release a DB add on. because then they would be up shit creek without a paddle. I mean the BD drive is the one really appealing thing to me right now.
