Title: PS3 is good value, says Eidos US boss
Post by: aeroforce325 on July 31, 2007, 12:06:00 PM
is that the only sell point they have?  blu-ray movie player?  where was this talk about games being a major selling point as well that sony has been spewing since pre-e3 til now?  wait maybe they finally know what we know.  they arent getting as many original exclusive titles like the 360 is.  the article just proves they want to cram blu-ray into peoples homes and making the focus of the system being a blu-ray movie player rather than a video game player.

they would've made a stronger point if they had mentioned the games as well, then it wouldnt sound as though the focus of the ps3 is to just be a blu-ray movie player.  it would sound like it actually had more value as both movie and game player.

is that why they priced it too high to begin with?

Because its obvious to the world that games are not a selling point for the PS3 due to lack of them. Infact, the only selling point is that it plays Blu Ray movies. I wonder how much Sony are paying companies to get them to say stuff like this.

i have to disagree.  i mean this is Eidos speaking.  a game developer.  the article sounds as though the guy was paid off to push Sony PS3s Blu-Ray movie playing capabilities, but what this guy could have done on top of this was hint at titles in development for a future release in 2008 or 2009.  it would've gotten people buzzing and hyping it, and therefore have more people interested in it, and possibly buying a PS3 in preparation of said titles.  the xbox 360 crowd has gone and made similar actions based on games like Two Worlds, BioShock, Mass Effect, among others which have been talked about for a number of months after they were initially revealed as in development.

there's no denying people are solely buying game consoles based on what games are slated for future releases.  Wii is also an example of this.  Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Brothers Brawl.  everyone who bought a Wii bought it to wait for those games among numerous others yet to be announced or even hinted at.
