Looks like there was a little more to the story, sorry if someone else has posted this...
NO HDMI on the lower system, no wifi, and no card reader...so the true story is told!

one thing im confused about is that how can the lower-end system play blue-ray movies with no HDMI?

Yeah me too. I though HDMi was required for blue-ray movie playback.

Does anyone know for sure what this mean as to being able to watch movie in 1080p, if you go for the 500 buck system...600 dollars for a gaming system is more then the average college kid can afford!

...and said college kid can afford it if it's 500? I don't see much of a difference between 500 and 600. Then again I'm too old to be a college student
Seeing how blu-ray drives cost ~1000, 600 seems okay for both PS3 and blu-ray disc playback capability.

Then 60 or so for each game....controllers....bla bla bla. This stuff adds up in a hurry. I gotta buy a house sooner or later, a couple of house payments or PS3...tough question.

Good point, but then again you'd need to pay similiar amount for games/controllers for xbox360 if you're going that route.
