Post by: kempie9901 on January 05, 2008, 04:58:00 PM
i have a softmodded xbox and im trying to get the EEPROM out of it, so that i can build a bigger hdd. i was looking at building a EEPROM reader but b4 i do that i was wondering, i have a usb port built into the xbox, if i can get the box to mount a memory card or something, can i just copy the eeprom to the card??  but also i havent been able to get the xbox to recognize any memory cards so far?? it always says "unable to mount memory unit". what do you guys think??

Connect with an ethernet cable and use FTP to transfer it over. You will want FTP access later to put apps such as XBMC on the Xbox.

yeah that would be so much easier unless your a dumby like me and didnt back up your eeprom and your hdd gets the clicking of death. which im in the process of building a eeprom reader. so dont trouble yourself with building an eeprom reader when you have a working xbox just ftp in to get the eeprom out.

Yes, but which program are you trying to FTP into? Do you know what IP address it's using? Can you ping it?

IVE TRIED TO FTP INTO IT WHILE I WAS ON THE UNLEASH X DASH AND WHEN I WAS IN XBMC. IT ALWAYS SAYS THE SAME IP WHEN I CONNECT IT TO AN ETHERNET PORT, BUT IT ALSO WONT GET ONLINE AND GET WHEATHER AND STUFF. HOW CAN I BE SURE THAT IT IS ACTUALLY CONNECTED? I HAVENT TRIED TO PING IT YET? HOW WOULD I GO ABOUT THAT? CONTROL PANEL? AND I CONFIGURED IT JUST LIKE ALL THE TUT. SAY. I DONT KNOW IT MIGHT BE THE XBOX

On your PC, click Start, then Run. Type "cmd" into the prompter and press ok (or "command", if you're using Windows 95/98).

Into the command prompt window, type "ping <X-Box's IP>" and press enter. You'll either be told the console replied, or that the attempts timed out.

If the attempts time out:

Try the "ipconfig" command. This'll give you a list of your computer's IP addresses (usually just the one). Don't make the mistake of setting your X-Box to the same address! All network devices in the same LAN need different IPs.

If that doesn't seem to help, list all the IPs, DNS addresses, subnet masks and gateway addresses you're using here.

in unleashx network settings set the It from static to DHCP and if you dont get an address its the cord.
after getting the DHCP ip set it back to static and enter that ip into the static ip.
If the xbox is using a 192.168.*.* number that is a class c network address. and the format for that is
Network.Network.network.host

so if your computer is 192.168.1.1
and your xbox is 192.168.2.1 then the network addresses don't fit in so thry aren't on the same lan.
or goto your computer and type ipconfig and if your IP address is 192.168.1.1 then put your xbox static ip to 192.168.1.11
