If you have played Gran Tourismo HD, tell us how it is! This demo has absolutely gorgeous graphics, but how does it play?
-
I played it.
It does have nice graphics and it plays the same as every other Gran Turismo released to date. It doesn't really blow me away though. I thought that some of the detail in the distance was a little low res for a game that has the subtitle 'HD' and although the vehicle models are very nice the tracks themselves suffer from quite a lot of jaggies even when running at 1080p.
As far as control is concerned I was dissapointed to find that when I assigned the brakes and acceleration to the L2/R2 analogue triggers they still operated as though they were digital meaning that there is no control over the level of acceleration and braking unless you use a wheel.
I think that the abscence of vehicle damage in 'the most realistic driving simulator' is unforgivable. Even if it's only cosmetic it still needs to be there these days - barring something like test drive because it simply would not have been practical.
So if you're looking for more of the same you will be more than happy but I feel that if I was to purchase this game I would be treading the same ground that I have been since 1999 with the release of GT2.
There simply won't be enough to hold those that are looking for more from the series. It's a purists title and needs an upgrade.
Of course if the online features are very good it may be worth picking up for that alone.
Unfortunately this series began to stagnate with the release of GT3 and even more so with GT4. I want more than just prettier visuals and a slightly different vehicle line-up.
Don't get me wrong, I love the GT series, but credit where credit is due.

i for one did not like it at all not that good to me
-
I thougt it was exactly the same as gt4, graphics wise and gameplaywise.
GT4 could be played at 1080i and 720p and although it flickered a little more than the ps3 demo it seems there has been no work done on the game.
Gran tourismo is one of sonys last games that people would go out and buy a system for, there are a lot of HARDCORE GT fans. If sony doesn't get there head out of there ass and offer somethign spectacular they are screwed.
I mean full on realistic damage also a selection of dam near every car ever made an I want them to look as close to photrealistic as it gets. I want to be wowed by soemthing about the ps3, i just wish they would hurry up and do it!!!!!!!!!!!

I for one thought the graphics were good. I thought the driving physics sucked though. One track and only time trial isnt much to go on though.
-
Actually you can open up drifting mode and play the track backwards after you unlock all the cars. I think the physics on gt are second to none but no damage and other features that weren't there killed it for me.
-
Wow that sucks, I was really looking forward to this game too.
-
I was just wondering, is the demo still available? I thought I read that it would only be available on Christmas - a one-time thing; but my PS3 is arriving next week, and I want to know if I can get it.
-
As of about ten minutes ago, it was still available.
There is a blurb on the download page about how it's for a limited time only, and that notice will be posted on the Playstation Store before availability changes.
Knowing Sony, expect them to take it offline about a week before the Europe launch next September.
