I think the above post stands true for the beginning of the PS3's term, however, I think most games will be on standard DVDs.
The PS2 did the same thing: games weren't outrageously expensive despite it featuring "new" DVD technology. This is because most early PS2 games are in fact on CD-ROM disks.
Well, I heard that Bluray is standard. I think Sony will offer us a reasonable comparably priced titles for 1st party games, but if 3rd party doesn't follow suit, then consumers will bite them in the ass. Ken even said that he will price 1st party titles according to consumer standards, but he can't decide that for 3rd parties as they make that choice.
Even if they price it high for the US, the press will probably kill them in that regard and companies will be forced to change, or not make profit at all.

You can't directly compare Japanese prices to the American marketplace. I've been paying that much (or a little under) for Japanese games for a very long time (since PS1). Nothing official has been announced, and even this article is based off of *might* or *maybe*
I've read that article in japanese and the part about prices state the following
1. Prices have not been announced officially
2. It is speculated, or rumored that the prices will be higher than that of PS2 titles ranging from 8800 to 9900 and cite the reason as rising development costs.
I would like to note that they compared it to PS2 titles, and not Xbox 360 titles. Xbox 360 titles are currently being priced somewhere between 65-70 dollars in Japan. Directly translated, the prices are 75 (8800) and 85 (9900) indeed, but that's only 5-10USD higher than that of 360's titles. I think that if the price will be higher, it wouldnt be in the 9900 range, thats damn hear 100 USD and no consumer would pay for that. 75 is pushing it, but thats not THAT bad comparing it to 70 dollar titles of 360.
You are so right....Because if we went by these prices then it safe to say lost planet is gonna cost $79 over here cause thats how much it is possibly gonna cost in japan. Just wait on the official US prices.

NO this is not the PS2, Sony isn't going to allow any games on DVD. It was good idea Idea in the ps2 days but nowadays sony needs to sell blu ray as much as possible. They officially said hell no to DVD games.

At this point it's really hard to put credit in anything Sony says. I would not be surprised to see games on standard DVD media.

This is one thing I would not argue with. there will be no DVD games on the ps3. Its a money decision and im sure sony wont be compromising any of their precious profits.
