all ps3 games will be pressed on blueray discs, wether the extra space is needed or not for the game.
This may not be the best thing for sony as far as costs for production. If the game itself has 6 or 7 gigs, they will make up for it with high definition video. So a game that doesn't have very many cutscenes (like oblivion) would not utilize the blu ray disc very much at all. It will cost more to produce without it being neccesary.

Sony will put giant dummy files probably filling up the rest of the space, in the way of game files, that won't do naything, so the idea of backing up games won't be so easy.
Thats what i think.. and i think blue-ray will be harder to backup too, since the massive space.. for the price of the blue ray disc to burn onto, and the risk of it not working, and the risk of screwing your ps3, buying the game will make more sense, hence making sony more money!
well, you said backup, then you said buying the game makes more sense, i think your confusing backups with piracy
also, dummy files are easily removed, so that won't complicate things. also, i was at compUSA the other day and they had recordable blueray (i think they where called BD-R and BD-RE instead of BD-RW) backing up games will only be as difficult as it is to get the system to boot.
also @ invader, i never said it was economically sensible, i just said thats how it is
sony already announced all games will be on blueray.
