Title: Custom Ios36 Rev05 Update Stopped My Wad Manager
Post by: Riverpatrol on October 20, 2008, 09:23:00 AM
I think I better explain again and start at the begining step by step.

This worked for me on the few backups I tried.
Yesterday I spotted Wii Backup Launcher Update had been released and what I did was.

So what I think has happened is I used the wrong IOS36-64-v1042.wad and that is what's causing me my problems. If all else fails can I format the wii memory to get the machine back to factory settings and then apply the twilight exploit again?

I did the EXACT same thing as you did! And my Wii ended up he same way!  dry.gif
But I don't think the Wad file is the problem. You see, this new cIOS include some new (DIP Module) coding that the current homebrew programs can't use. This is why most applications don't work with this new cIOS. But the problem is, now that I have installed it, I can't uninstall it because of this "DIP" issue!!

And I got to tell you, I freaked out when I learned this..!
So much that I formated my console.. But guess what...: The format didn't delete the cIOS!! I thought; "This is madness!!" And tried every other way I could to get this thing uninstalled and get my Wi back to normal. But without ANY luck..!  grr.gif

I guess all we can do is wait for an updated version of "Wad Manager", "Backup Loader" and "cIOS36" itself..

If you find a way to get out of this mess, please let me know!

I'll keep looking and if I find anything you'll be the first to know.

What a pain!

k.

Download AnyTitle Deleter http://wiibrew.org/wiki/AnyTitle_Deleter

Load it via HBC. Then go into System Files and delete IOS249 (aka cIOS).

cIOS Rev05 is now removed.

If you want to use backup loader and wadmanger, right now. Download cIOS_fix.wad. Google it.

Use that until Wiigator's cIOS rev6 is released w/ the new version of the backup loader.

Thanks for the help, man!!
But I'm afraid it's already too late for my console.. You see, I have already installed the new Nintendo firmware update hoping that would overwrite the cIOS.. So, yeah.. All I got to do now is wait for somebody to hack the new firmware.. Damit!

K. You may be in luck since the tool necessary to fix your Wii have come out.

Since you have a cIOS installed, this might work for you.

http://wii.waninkoko.info/

Download Waninkoko's IOS downgrader 1.0 (you need to make an account for the forum to download)

Rename the .dol file to boot.elf and put it in the root of your SD card.

Put the Twilight Hack on your Wii. Then load TP, load Twilight Hack, and the IOS downgrader will load...

Then use the program to downgrade the IOSes to regain the fakesigning bug.

You can now install HBC again, and use anytitle deleter to delete IOS249.

WiiGator has now released Backup Launcher v3 that has waaay faster loader times, with cutscenes working properly now.

http://gbatemp.net/?act=module&module=...member=WiiGator

Download BUL and his cIOS installer. And install his cIOS.

Now you will have an improved Backup Launcher working, and Wad Manager working again.

I'm sorry to report that it failed..
I couldn't run the cIOS Downgrader with the TP-Hack. And I have found no other way to run it eather.. When I activated the TP-Hack and serched for the .elf on the SD card, the screen read:

Relocating 00000100 to 80004000 (306720 bytes)
Relocating 0004af20 to 8004cc20 (100096 bytes)
Clearing BSS (at 80067520, 469888 bytes...)
jumping to 80004000

And the screen just freeze there..

Try installing HBC b9 (works on new firmware). Then try to load IOS downgrader from HBC.

1. Create a folder called "IOS downgrader" in the apps folder (SD card)
2. Put the ISO downgrader's .dol file in the "IOS downgrader" folder
3. Rename to boot.dol
4. Load in HBC and see if it works.

If you still get a black screen it's probably because it's not compatible with your cIOS (or your cIOS was a bad install somehow).

Yeah, I auto-updated the Homebrew Channel, but I still can't boot any of my cIOS applications.. I have had no problem running other homebrew (like emulators and games) with HBC v8 or v9.

I'm thinking I somehow screwed up when installing the cIOS, and might have used a bad dump or something like that. But isn't there any way to totally format the console and install new firmware..? I tried to format my Wii using the consoles configurations menu, but I still had the same problem.. At this point it seems as if what I need is something to whipe my Wii totally clean and bring it back to life / install a "normal" IOS..

Nope. There's no way to "clean" the Wii AFAIK. But I don't see any reason why to get rid of cIOS. cIOS does not overwrite any of your official Nintendo IOSes.

Your Wii will function normally with it. Just that programs that automatically detect cIOS, like Wad Manager will freeze. ..But you can't use Wad Manager anyways with the newest update.

I just did, and it still doesn't load.. Guess I'll have to wait and see what else the future will bring..! Thanks so much for all your help, man.. If you hear of anything else, please, let us know..!
If I find a way out of this slump, I'll report back as well..

Last option.

Get a modchip. Download the ISO for Nintendo's "Pink Fish" disc...

This will install IOS16 onto your Wii

Then you can use http://www.zshare.net/download/50575142b4331639/ this modified version of the Wad Manager that uses IOS16 that still has the bug.

Also... if your wii was ever repaired by Nintendo you probably have IOS16.

Ok. I finally got your solution. This should work for sure.

Download the IOS16 version of WAD Manager : http://www.zshare.net/download/50575142b4331639/
This one tries to detect IOS16 instead of cIOS. So your cIOS won't interfere, and it should load normally.

Then install IOS16, with "IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad".
Which you need to extract from "Wii Backup Disc" using WiiScrubber. Look under the update partion then sys. Then extract the WAD from the disc.

Use IOS16 Wad Manager to install "IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad".

You now should have a working WAD manager.

Ok, I just tested this.. I got the IOS16 installed (is there any other programs compatible with this IOS?) but I didn't get my cIOS uninstalled..! I tried everything with this new WAD Manager, but it seems as if nothing is getting to the source of the problem..! I have may have used some PatchMii cIOS or something when I screwed my console up, I really have no clue at this point.. But I have tested all the PatchMii cIOS un/installers, and none of them boot..

But thanks for the awesome advice..!
It would have worked if my cIOS wasn't all screwed up..  dry.gif

Did you try installing the cIOS_fix.wad with IOS16 WAD manager. Maybe it'll overwrite it, and you'll have a working cIOS?

At least you have a WAD manager that works. You should be able to install and uninstall WADs with it.
