I don't have a hdtv and I have noticed this too at times.  It seems to happen more if press alot button during loading and before the notes start.  When it happens to me, I just restart the song and it usually fixes it.  Try not mashing the buttons so much until the notes show up.

because if you have a hd tv you have to calibrate the lag on the settings.

his tv WAS an HD!!!  Problem solved...hopefully

Yea my hdtv lags on a bunch of games for xbox.
