Wowzers!
That is fantastic. What was your equipment?

nice.
how long did that take?
-
Took me about 1 1\2hr. The longest part is cutting and stripping the wires.
-
thats one of the most beautiful solder jobs i think ive ever seen. great job
-
Thanks for the feedback guys. Now sow me what you got! I wanna see some of your installs!
-
Did you buy a Wiikey for a d2c?
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=593056
-
Yep, one of the best jobs ive seen too. Im good but Ive never done that lol.
I did the original 29wire and ps2's but that beats those down into the ground.
Nice work.

No, no. Thats just an old post from when I started modding Wii's. Ive done about 110 of them since then.
-
Exellent work man....I just wish i had a steady enogh hand to do that
-
It's not as good as yours Spankit but I think it's not bad.
How do you get the wires to stay so neat without taping them?

def. good skillz guys keep up good work.
-
whats best way to keep the wire still by the chip legs? just a steady hand? im bloody struggeling
-
I pinch the wire between my fingers then I press th e tips of my fingers down on the IC for stability. Makre sure you use some flux and pretin all your wires and you get good contacts every time.
-
Very nice .. I'm going to order that iron you posted, my $15 radio shack isnt cutting it anymore (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
-
ok you asked for it!
(IMG:http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb290/turr1can/DSC00148.jpg)
I did put the power leads on before anyone says anything. it may look like a spider nest, but it works great!!! i havent done any job as fiddly as that before. took about 2 hours i think.
Well done for the other two installs, they look amazing!
-
Do you guys apply flux to the chip legs to help things stick? Or do you just apply flux to the wire in order to get it tinned? I think I'm going to do the alt. install. I only have IDE cable though. Would that work ok or should I order the kynar? The IDE cable strands seem to be 30 awg.
-
i think you will have a tough time with IDE cable. especially on the wires which need to go straight on the IC pins. kynar is the way to go. you want to put flux on the board if possible to help solder flow
-
thanks for the confirmation on the kynar. The IDE cable is really hard to work with so it's good to hear that kynar is better. Just ordered some pre-cut kynar from fry's. Can't wait to post my install
-
I'm really surprised none of you guys signed up for the Nintendo-Scene give-away http://nintendo-scene.com/589
-
hey guys, just thought i'd throw my hat in the ring - this is my FIRST d2ckey, finished it a few days ago. PM me if you're looking for an installer, i'm in the milwaukee area but will ship anywhere.
-
Very nice (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I like the colors. Anyone else think the wires would look best if the chip is installed upside down?
It looks like you wouldn't have to cross any of the wires that way.
-
What does this chip do?
I've seached a little on the forum and can't really find anything about it
(I feel like such a noob)
-
Heres a pretty good description of the D2CKey chip:
http://www.modsuppli...chip-p-218.html
It does the same thing as the Wiikey and other chips, except its the only one that supports the new D2C chip.
-
Here are some of my installs

-
hey, are you guys soldering the wires to the legs of the chip or the pads by the motherboard.
I did one, and the damn thing isn't reading anything now. I'm gonna remove it and start over , but
I wanted to solder the wires to the legs of the chip up by the top . soldering to the board was a bitch , and the connection was not very strong. also, I'm not sure if the wires were shorting out or not getting a good connection.
-
Wow didnt know there were so many Pro's here! Nice job guys, all of ya!

I solder to the legs. Its a little more difficult, but once you get a technique, its not so bad (well, its not so bad assuming you have all the right equipment and expert soldering skills).
Just test your connections with a continuity tester after the install. Test the D2CKey (non of the contacts should have continuity), and also test each wire on the D2CKey to the alternative point on the board (if you installed it on the IC chip, test continuity on the alternative part on the board. If you installed the wire on the board, test continuity on the IC chip).

thanks.
-
Here are some more of my installs.

-
how do you get the wires to sit so flat?
and could you provide a link to that wiring diagram , the ones on the d2ckey site have all the wires going to the one chip , your method seems much better, and cleaner.
-
Are you guys using 30 AWG cables? or smaller AWG? Don't want to get started to fine out tha the 30 AWG is too thin. Thanks

This post should be renamed to "Why To Ship To Someone else to install" !... Great Work guys...

Another D2CKey

I have so experience soldering or dealing w/ wires but I'm thinking about modding my wii. I was wondering how some installs have such perfectly aligned wires rather than just having them go every which way individually. I'm talking about the kind of "ribbons" you could call them, of wire that some installs have that look really good.

It just takes time to run the wires like that. I don't use any type of ribbon cable, each wire is individually connected then run together. I have a few more pictures of my D2CKey installs I can post in a few.
-
Thanks for the response.
I was also wondering...I've seen a lot of install pictures on the internet and read a lot of tutorials for installing modchips and I'm seriously considering trying my hand at the Wii. For most of these tutorials and pictures they use 30 awg wires for the connections to and from the chip, but some use different wiring for the ground and "vcc" connections I believe they're called. Is this necessary and, if so, what size of wiring is most appropriate then?

I used kynar 30 awg for all connections and its worked fine for me. I got a couple feet of kynar wire from ebay (fast and easy). With a little practice soldering is easy (looks difficult, but simple once you practice a little). Good luck.

(IMG:http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f143/Tortuga2112/d2ckey.jpg)
here's the first one I did, I didnj't like the way the wires were overlapping though.
(IMG:http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f143/Tortuga2112/D2Ckeyinstall003.jpg)
this was my 2nd install.
whiteblazer set the standard so I wanted to try to copy his.

Impressive installs guys, remind me of the PS2s I used to mod.. some great work
-
Great lookin pics guys. I attempted a PS2 once...
Got as far as looking at the wires and circuts through the magnifier thing and was like F That.
On that note, any of you doing Wii chip installs in the Tacoma/Seattle area in WA State? Shoot me a PM, or an email: [email protected].
-
nice pics guys....
i just bought a chip which got delivered today, i was wondering "" no wires""
did you guys have to buy the wire seperately???
-
awesome pics
how much wire do you guys know you need when your soldering them?
-
A few more I didn't post (I have lots more). Always a different color scheme.

Another install

-
Uno Mas!

-
Got a few more D2CKey's done today.

-
wow whiteblazer01, those are Beautiful seriously
-
Another one

Im currently awaiting my order of wire and then i should be good to go to install my d2c key..
looking on the site where i bought it from, the diagrams show all wires soldered on to the d2c chip but looking at some of urs lot great installs, some have the wires on the chip next to it?
is there another way of wiring these chips in?
seems like it would be easier rather to solder all those wires to such a little chip

There are some alternative ways to install the D2CKey, but I don't know if they would be any easier, as the soldering work is very small and precise.
Here are some images of the D2CKey installs. Don't let the large image size fool you, the points are very small (thats why I put a dime in all my install pics).

Thanks! It usually takes me 1.5 - 2 hours for the mod. Everyone once in a while I'll get one done in just over 1 hour.
I'll post some more pics up soon, I have a lot more done.
-
Ace is all I gots to say. That is seriously impressive.
-
@ whiteblazer, what kind of soldering iron do you use for all your d2c installs? And how do you get the wires to look so neat and organized like that?
Oh and btw, thats really damn impressive
-
Good evening,
This is my installations of d2ckey modchip :

-
very nice mac that looks very very clean how did you get the wire to stay in place?
-
I also sent him a Wii two weeks ago. He sent me an email saying he got it. He said it would be shipped out within two days. Still no Wii. Wont return phone calls or emails. From all of his earlier posts I thought he was a reputable installer. When I spoke to him on the phone prior to sending my Wii I didn't sense he was going to rip me off. What are the chances of getting my Wii back? Anyone have any positive contact with Paul?
-
I had my infectus 2 install by somebody else. I had to open it to install the Ribon cable a week or so ago to do an update (to v1.8 from 1.4)
Here are a couple of pics.
The installer used some Glue or something to keep everything in place. I dont mind, as I know I dont have to worry about a wire moving, I just hope I would never need any more wires installed!!!
I'm wondering anyones opinion on that.

Ya that looks horrible. I have never used glue and almost never use tape. If you install it right you just dont need it.
Glad its working good. Thats what really counts i guess!
Did you pay much for the install ?
-
50 bucks. I expected to pay more around 100.
-
Here's my installs that I've done that I took pictures of.

-
Im not worthy
-
Dang Mac....Thats crazy
I love how the wires all look the exact same for all of your installs....Its amazing
-
Here's my 2nd d2ckey install.... decided to make it look decent.... my first 1 had wires all over lol

Dang dude, that is incrediable! I second that, how do you get the soldering so perfect, and dang how do you get the wires so organized. You should start a digg on this, I would totally digg it lol
