Title: Wiikey Installed Pics.
Post by: SpankIt on March 19, 2007, 04:00:00 PM
I just got my WiiKey in the mail and I seem to be having some fitment issues. It does not see to be fitting properly. Point number 6 does not match Properly and it seems if I tried to solder it it would cover some traces. If anyone has a picture of their wiikey installed it would be appreciated.
THanks

I chipped my Wii yesteday with the WiiKey. After looking at it for a while I was afraid to try to quicksolder, so I did wires instead.
It was surprising easy, just use electrical tape to take the chip in place before you start.

This is a common problem with so far as I know all wiikey's. People have been doing wire installs because of it.
Depending on if you already soldered the other points you could use a small wire, or leg of an led and solder from the pad at an angle down to your point. I say go with the wire install if you can.

i agree with the wire install. at some point in the future you will want to remove the wiikey and replace it with something better (assuming there is something better than dvd drive mods in our future). Wire install is easy to remove, but if you use the 'quicksolder method' it's bitch to take out. Think about the future man!!!

I went for the quick solder myself and it works great, it maybe harder to take out compared to a wire install but it won't be that big of a challenge and ill cross that bridge when i get to it but for now i am very happy with the quick solder install(after all thats how it was designed how to be installed) I took a quick Picture of the ship installed the quality isn't the best but i thought id post it. I did a much prettier one today (Didn't snap any pics though...), but here's a shot of a quicksolder install I did a couple of days ago...
nice to see abit of flux at work there, thats what solder should look like, almost as if they would roll tgether to make a T1000 terminator (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Well i installed the wii-key chip Saturday i made a boot disk everything works great. This chio was easy as the X-Bit was for me. Now i have heard and read that in order to copy backups of the wii disk you need a LG drive. Well as i am typing i am dumping wii-sports a disk i own to a raw dump with unscramble unchecked with the drive that is in my Dell Inspiron B130 laptop TSST corp DVD+-RW TS-L532B DE04 All i did was used a driver that i found compatible to an LG drive and replaced it with it. After it dumps i will unscramble it and let you know if it works. As for Homebrew no problems for me works great and the media i use is Maxell DVD-R. Also will try doing a SD install without that of a Gamecube memory card.

i do a split between wire and quicksolder. I do the 2 points it lays over and just use small jumpers for the other points, but damn apple that looks quite nice.

wat can you use to grind down the chip that is also cheap. can it be as simple as sand paper?

nvm i found a dremmel that i could use. ill probably try the method that directly solders the wires to the cut leg without grinding down the chip.

If there's enough pin left sticking out then it's not that bad; 3/4 of the leg cut wiis I've modded so far have had their legs cut flush though, so soldering to the nubs is more work then it's worth (once you get the hang of the dremmel method you can do it pretty quickly.)

hello everyone,
thanks first and foremost. i am new to soldering but my buddy has experiences soldering before but we do not know which part of the wiikey should be soldered onto where??
i also have the wire method but i dont know what to solder to with the wire? can somebody please post a picture , preferably bigger then the picture on the wiikey.cn site because i can't see well from that pix and i don't want to mess up. so can someone please post a picture with a wiikey wire method soldered onto the wii motherboard, please make sure the picture is big so i can tell exactly where which part goes to which part. thanks.
