I am getting ready to mod my Wii, which is the overall best chip?
I am looking for easy install, Virtual console games, and full backup support.
-
At the moment, most people will agree it is the Wiikey.
-
IMO the "Best" retail drive chip is the wiikey currently.
Wiifree is currently the best DIY mod, that's what I have and I love it. I burnt a backup of my rayman on a playo crap-tastic DVD at 12x and my wii has not given a DRE yet in 6+ hours of play time. Now I don't recommend using cheap media or fast burn speed but I tried it for a grin and I'll tell you I still got the grin. Although, there is no/limited stream-fix for GC games so if that matters to you.
I think it's bad ass I can burn off a full size DVD of gc games now and play them on the Wii, I have a qube pro with a full size replacement case, but that 2gb+ extra space is nice to have.
Wiiskas would be the choice under that for working streamfix.

I agree with wiikey as the best retail, but I think Chiip is the best DIY. I'll be honest, I don't know why, but I really like the Chiip.

spoofee has a link to the wiikey for $29 with free shipping.
-
i may not be spoofee but here you go:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1999
i got mine from here and theyve actually got a lot of good prices on there for DS stuff too.
I guess it helps that theyre located right in the middle of hong kong.
-
I was gonna get one from dealextreme, but I heard they're clones

Hmm... so who is a reputable dealer with decent pricing (for US)?
-
i dont have a wiikey, but i DO have a cyclowiz. i have no complaints with the chip, other then the fact there have been false promises on the updates. but it plays all the backups i throw at it. + and -
but you have to burn at like 2.4X
-
If you want to go to the most reputable source, then check out the resellers on www.wiikey.cn

I agree, unfortunately they are all out (N/A retailers) but its still a good idea to wait. Not worth getting ripped off with a clone. Ill just keep checkin till they are in stock.
EDIT: Actually modchipstore.com says they have them in stock, just ordered one!

I thought Moddingmaniacs.com had them (wiikey) possibly? But anyways, I decided to go with the wiifree. Ordered a programmer and 6 chips...

everything out there right now are just dvd drive chips. They're not worth 40$. I think it's ridiculous to spend that money on something that you can make yourself for 10$. If you actually take the time and look at the plans to build these homebrew chips, they're really not tough to do. And they do exactly the same damn thing as these expensive "professional" chips. Infact, Wabmodcheap just came out with on-the-fly region free patching. None of the commercial chips can do that. Just like the guy with the accent says "Save your Money!"

Id rather spend $45 then sink hours of time into chipping my Wii.

Or you can get a Wiinja Deluxe, it is up to par with almost exact same features as wiikey. I am an official reseller for them. www.ModchipCentral.com . If I were you I'd get a wiikey or Wiinja Deluxe. There are already 2 updates out for the wiinja deluxe, upgradeable via dvd.
We have the wiinja deluxe in stock
