aint those gd-rom discs only 1.2 GB capacity, alot of games probably don't use it all.
if you think about some of the DEMOS on 360 that are up over a gig i don't think size would be a huge concern

very good point mate, i had overlooked the lack of storage on the wii.
even with modern compression techniques i guess they would still be too big.

I don't even think the ps3 and xbox 360 could emulate a dreamcast with just software and processer speed, but im not sure what would be needed, or if there would be a way to use the graphic ram in a ps3/360 to use with a dreamcast emulator, i just think its probly to difficult this time around,but i gaurentee in the next next gen ps4,xbox 720, wii 2? or w/e they will be called will have a dreamcast emu, because who ever does it first will get alot of money from it, the dc had some awesome games with a pretty good fanbase who would love to replay them..i dunno im rambling

the DC ran off of Windows CE, it'd be about as complex as the Xbox 1 emulator. however it would probably be much easier considering the hardware in the DC wasn't as powerful.
I think they might consider it if the optical drive could read DC discs... IIRC it was similar to a CD but with the data more compressed, modern drives would have a good enough laser that they could theoretically read them with proper firmware.
I would be in heaven if I could pop DC discs into my 360 or Wii

If I remember correctly, the DC didn't actually have WindowsCE, it was designed to be compatible with it, and *some* games would come with their own version of CE on the disc, which would esentially launch a "windows" game. This was made to make porting between DC and PC easy.

While the games were pressed on GD-Roms, a GD-ROM isn't really different from a CD (physically). To put it simply:
A GD-ROM laser is more fine than a CD-ROM laser. This enabled people to write data to their own CDs, which could still be read by the DC. Alternatively, this also meant that you could only read a GD-ROM with a GD-ROM drive (your DC), in order to get the data in the first place.
It would be pretty sweet for any console to have a DC emulator, although for someone like me who had his entire DC collection stolen, not much point anymore. All the good shit's gone...same with my Saturn, which would be an even sweeter console to emulate.

correct,
CDs use an Infra-Red laser
DVDs use a Red laser
(and HD-DVD/BluRay use a Blue/Violet laser)
Basically the "GD-ROM" drive was just an IR laser with a tighter data pitch somewhere between CD and DVD.
as long as the laser is good enough GD-ROM discs should be capable of being read in any CD drive with the proper firmware to know where to read and how to read it.
SegaCD, and Saturn were just regular old CDs... it'd be sweet if they had emulators for those you could just down load and start popping in the old discs, doubt we'll ever see that happen though
