I don't believe there are any plans to at present, however if homebrew starts to get popular on the Wii I think it might happen down the road.

It would indeed be nice to see a wii scene, i think i checked the domain and someone has already bought it?  huh.gif

I hope it was xantium who thought it would be worth the while to keep it reserved.

Looking at how the progress has currently been on the wii i think we may very well see something along the lines of some custom home brew applications very soon.

Being as i'm in the UK i don't currently have access to a wii but will have soon enough beerchug.gif

I brought this up and that's how these forums came about. I think as ts said, if there's a demand in the future for more sections, it will probably happen. Right now everything is very general, so it's fine to have it all grouped together.

Here here. Don't get me wrong, the Wii forum is nice as it is, but it would be great to have a dedicated section for various areas, just like the 360 and PS3.

You beat me to it. Was about to post this morning but had to run out before I could finish and submit. I think we should have one. If you look at the PS3 forums there isn't much happening there. No case mods or anything of that sort. Mainly people just talking like there has been here.

i had that thought a few days ago then thought, alright, time to post in the suggestions forum.. guess my adult ADD kicked in and i forgot.

games
hacking
general
hardware mods (dounbt there will be enough for its own forum)
wii channels (network)
backups

it could happen.

Yeah but lets be fair, there is more to talk about over at the PS3 section, there are more categorys and more people visit them because its nice and sectioned. In which case anyone browsing the forums will see it right away and probably have a say in something or another.

Plus, we haven't had the wii forum that long so i would be hoping we don't have as many replies right now. Also to be fair this is abit much out of the way, i didn't even know we had a wii forum at all untill not too long ago...

I just really hope Xant thought ahead and bought the wii scene domain as i think someone has bought it, no idea who i just hope it was him.

I'd really like to see this happen, personally i think the overall progress on this so far has been pretty good, weve already seen emulators running on the wii, so this would say to me, more homebrew can be wrote under applications and ran in the same type of method? it would just need to be wrote to utilize more of the wii's available power. Hopefully the wii will really take off in the modding community, it already seems to be doing quite well for itself.

Anyway just my thoughts, would deffinatly be nice to see more support though.

That would be awesome. I haven't been this excited about gaming in a long time. Don't get me wrong, I really like my 360, but when I'm playing LoZ:TP, I'm getting that warm, fuzzy feeling that I did back in the Ocarina of Time days. It only seems fitting that the Wii gets the forum attention that it deserves.

Not to mention the PS3 forums have been there for over a year, and it has it's own site to attract attention. There isn't really much in the way of hacking/modding sites for Nintendo and I think a wii-scene or nintendo-scene would help fill that void.

...if you build it, they will come.
Title: Wii Scene

I agree, the Wii forums would really take off
more people would be able to find them easier and thus bringing in more people to the Wii modding scene, and that would most likely mean that there will be more mods or more advanced mods for the Wii in the future...

We already have 2 mods that are fairly cool:

Mounting more powerful stand alone IR transmitters to the sides of your tv or on the sides of your projection area so that you eliminate the sensor bar and have a better range while the Wii has a better Idea of your screen size

Changing the LEDs in the disk slot, I think it wouls be cool to do some red ones like the NES power light

the first mod doesn't even require you to pull apart your wii

from looking at the disassembly pics, it looks like if you make a window in the case you would be able to see the disk without modding the drive

does anyone know what kind of LEDs are used?

that would be a tight mod, just a dvd window... especially when sitting on its stand.

I agree, and maybe a few blue LEDs connected to the Wii's 2 for the disk bar for a really nice effect

---thought of another possible mod:
Making the LED bar stay on all the time while the system was on instead of only when you get a message, only downside is that you wouldn't know when you got a message sad.gif

yea, I know what you mean xboxman

that is a great Idea liquid-core, it would also be a very nice effect (I'll use blue and red LEDs as an example):
on, no message - red
on, with message - purple fade
off, with message - blue fade

Post by: liquid-core on November 30, 2006, 04:22:00 PM
This topic has been pulled off topic but I agree it should be moved to the suggestion forums.

Onto modding:

I would be willing to, with the help of some other modders, map out the voltage points and other good to know information about the wii and its motherboard. This would really open up the scene to wii modders and possibly give us our own sections. I need to get a voltmeter (?) anyways so... Anyone up for it?

Maybe not a whole Wii scene, but a few additional sections would be nice. Stuff like General, Games, and Modification would be adequate and simplistic.

yea, this will be one awesome scene

once I get my screwdrive, I'll do the light mods

I'm not really too good at windows though, so that isn't an option for me

a really simple, really clean cut window would look awesome though

I've sigged this link to try and get more supporters

and also, if we get a main forum, the NDS could be a sub forum as I am sure that the DS will be mention quite a bit once homebrew takes off

I totaly love that Idea on the window!
multimeters aren't really all that hard, just set it to DC and touch a grounded point with one lead and othe points of interest, like the led points and fan points, with the other lead and see what comes up, also, the pins for the psu plug will probably be most valuable as they are probably a consistant voltage
Title: Wii Scene

If you guys want to start collecting mod related info on the Wii I'd be more then happy to start organizing it and put it in a Sticky...  smile.gif

I think a moding FAQ sticky with pinouts power souces for lights and links to various tutorials and another sticky with homebrew info.

While I have a chipped Gamecube myself I've never done any of the GC softmods so I wouldn't really know what to do to get that stuff running on the Wii... but if we can get some good tutorials together for that stuff I think it would be fantastic.

Basically PS3 has it's own section because Xant and the other Admins see the PS3 as a more mod-able and homebrew-able console with a larger community

but if we can grow the Wii moding community here it could convince them to expand into a Wii scene.

for sick^^ from some for the pics that I've came accross, the DVD drive top already has slots in the top of it, that would mean that we either won't really need to mod it and some of the othe flat ports are most likely just extra supports

to twisted, see the wii friends page, we came up with something that you may want to see
great Idea on the Stickies, so far we can probably get at very least  someone to post a pinout for compont out and the IR emitter idea is pretty cool too (mounting the two IR emitters on the side of the TV)

Soon wii'll probably have a light bar mod and a dvd window along with the pinouts (i'll try to get some pinouts from the psu tonight)

I think we should divide the work. Just makes it easier. Once I get mine apart I would be more than happy to A) Help plot out power points, and cool.gif write a tut on a DVD drive window. Lets work together on this thing to jump start these forums! What kind of skills do we have to pull here? I can cut windows, wire, etc.

I'm also good with cable management and LED mods

and I did a dou x 2 gs chip install on a 1.6 in 13 min before

Any mods wanna fix the links, or should I just cut and paste the tuts themselves here?  Or maybe nothing at all would be best?  I wasn't trying to promote any site, just promote wii hacking.

There's nothing I can do about that. The guy who runs that site decided to create multiple accounts here and spam it all over the boards, so he got all his accounts banned and his site's URL added to the shit-filter

I'd recommend not even bothering to patronize his site... I'm sure we can come up with better tutorials here anyway.  wink.gif

I am very anxious to change up my wii but dont want to open it until there is a tut for it.  I just hate taking apart something and then finding out i cant get it back together lol.
