Hi all,
I bought a xbox 1.1 from ebya that was sold as faulty with the intention of repairing it and making a media center for my bedroom. I got it today nad fired it up and it booted first time so i thought i'd got a bargain (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Then i left it on to go do something else and when i came back it had locked up. I rebooted it and it switches on twice then frags with the red and orange rings. I have read this article (http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/red-orange.php) about a possible repair but my question is, is it going to be worth trying this first or just stick on a mod chip and hope for the best?
I was going to fit a executer 3 in anyway but i dont wanna waste £40 if its not going to work.
Cheers

Do what it says in the article first. If the problem turns out to be the RST trace, a modchip alone wont fix it.

cheers.
I've been out the xbox game for a while (no pun intended) but whats a RST trace? is that the Reset trace?
If it is the reset trace how would i know? and what would be involved in fixing it?

Yeah, RST stands for Reset. Basically, you follow the guide and solder a wire from pin 5 to the bottom of the resistor. If that solves your problem, you know the trace was broken somewhere. Id install a pinheader first, in prep for the modchip, and then solder the wire shown in the picture:

hello,
I have bridge those 2 connections and its still fragging orange and red. I then checked the continuity on the original trace and this is fine. Any more ideas??
