So, new console. I for one want to see pictures of the hardware that is inside the console and peripherals. So lets gather those internal pictures here so they are easily found. I'll start off with the only thing I've found so far, pictures of the uncovered remote.

Wow, im quiet surprised with those pics. I thought the electronics inside the Wiimote would be extremely complex ddue to the motion sensor and all that.
I mean, look at this pic: Wiimote Pic
thatd have like a total of 10 SMD components? And one chip to control it all. It looks even simpler than the PCB of my TV remote...

well, that one chip thing is probably a pretty expensive special purpose asic that they had manufactured specifically for this remote. Since I can't see any other chips I'm gonna have to guess that they have integrated all the good stuff in to that single chip.
Its quite interesting actually, this controller/remote actually looks like a remote when looking at the pcb. The analog part of the controller will probably look more like the 360 and sixaxis controller.
But damn, a one chip solution.. hope they haven't decided to go the same way on all the parts of this console or hacking it will be extremely difficult.

and, what is that circular plastic thing for? can't see it connect to anything.. and button 1 and 2, wtf? They don't seem to have any thing they connect to on the pcb.. am I missing something?

Count me in, day 1 (well.. maybe day 2).
Those 1 and 2 buttons don't look functional. It must be a prototype or something, although it seems strange they'd skip that.

Well, think about the size of the wii. For it to be that small, theres going to be a lot of custom multi-purpose chips in there. And i have a feeling hacking it aint going to be easy (Well let hope im wrong)

it's how the wiimote interfaces with the system, it's what senses where in the virtual space the wiimote is. It can be placed almost anywhere above or below the tv and can sit and an angle but once calibrated works a charm apparantly.

well it actually is all accelerometers for the motion sensing in the Wii-Remote and nunchuck attachment.
The sensor bar is for the POSITIONAL sensing... basically the Wii-remote in addition to motion sensing also can point at the screen like a light gun (Time Crisis, Area 51, Virtua Cop, etc.).
AFAIK that's the only function of the sensor bar, motion controlled is still handled entirely bu accelerometers internally.
IR sensors were used instead of traditional light gun tech because traditional light gun tech only works properly on CRT displays, but IR sensors can work on ANY display.
It's not new either, there is a light gun called the "Top Gun" that uses IR sensor bars that works with the PS2, Xbox and PCs.
If the motion control works like the other motion control systems I've used it will have 2 three-axis accelerometers. Imagine the controller is a flat piece of cardboard. one accelerometer is in the top left and the other is in the bottom right.
When both register +X it meas the controller is moving straight along the X axis, if one registers +Z and the other -Z it means that it's rotating around the X axis. They're offset in opposite corners so that it can detect rotation about any of the 3 linear axis. Not saying that's how it works but that's how other systems I've used work.

I hope the controllers work well, meaning that you can sit at an angle from the TV, be sitting down, etc. I also hope that it is extremely responsive. With this type of innovative controls, they can either have something great, or completely flop if it's not responsive or is glitchy.

I totally agree, I really hope this isn't the virtual boy all over again. Because the 360 is lack luster, and the ps3, well has yet to excite me either. Soon we shall know

I love light gun games
but unfortunetly I haven't been able to play any since moving to a DLP based projector...
That's why I'm hoping the Wii will revive the Light Gun genre... Seeing that the light gun components are built right in I'm sure it will become home to almost all light gun arcade games, and possibly get some new light gun franchises under it.

Me too, and after my surgery tomorrow I have a feeling I will be getting pretty good at Silent Scope left handed. Maybe I will play a little House of the Dead 2 as well. I don't think I will play HotD3 again after playing through it a couple times.
