Title: Whats Up With A Psp From Japan
Post by: Hercules Q Einstein on January 04, 2006, 08:56:00 PM
Ok i know someone that has a Jap PSP. I can buy it but i want to know how its different from a US PSP. Can it play US games? He said i can upgrade the firmware to make it the same as a US one, is that true?

What should i know about? I dont speak japanese, but its a really good deal ($150 and i get a few games and a 512meg card).

I hear i cant watch UMD movie but is that it? So games still work good?

Games are region free, so they will work. UMDs are region locked, just like DVDs

Firmware wise, although never going it myself, i hear you can.

Even if you flash a US firmware to a JAP PSP, the UMD's will still be region locked, the region coding isn't in the firmware, its somewhere else in the PSP hardware. (is in the sameplace the firmware gets flashed to, the firmware just does not alter it)
