Title: Did The Downgrader Work For You?
Post by: netdevil69 on October 08, 2005, 06:13:00 AM
It worked for me.

thanks MPH

I thought i would make this poll so there is a clear percentage for people to look at, rather then keep asing each other if it worked, if everyone can just post here we can point people this way to reassure them.

Mods: Feel free to edit the poll choices if you think there too limited, or can think of better ones.

I haven't tried it... I'm using 1.5.

Besides, I already sampled 2.0 on my friends PSP, and it's not that great.

Worked great for me as well!  I upgraded to 2.0 then downgraded to 1.5.  Don't bother with 2.0, the web browser sucks!

They actually have a more stable version of it out

Release Notes:
QUOTE
   SonyxTeam News Downgrader Released !!!

SonyXteaM and MPH are proud to present you their new WORKING downgrader for psp 2.0 !!

Yeah you heared it's finally out ! it's  been developped by both Yoshihiro from SonyXteaM and MPH (the creator of the firmware launcher)

Here it is !

http://www.sonyxteam.com/downloads/[MPH_SXT]Downgrader1.0.zip

and here are the instructions !

This as been TESTED howaver we are not responsible for the eventual dammages

Downgrading 2.00 -> 1.50 method
-------------------------------

Requires :
----------

- PSP 2.00 (if you have an 1.51 or 1.52, update to 2.00)
- The 1.50 EBOOT.PBP update (http://shockzone.free.fr/PSP/Tool/EBOOT_1.50.zip)
- MPHDowngrader (http://www.sonyxteam.com/downloads/[MPH_SXT]Downgrader1.0.zip)

Installation :
--------------

- Create a UPDATE folder in PSP/GAME/ folder of your memory stick
- Copy EBOOT.PBP (update 1.50) in UPDATE folder
- Unpack [MPH_SXT]Downgrader1.0.zip
- Copy overflow.tif in your PSP/PHOTO/ folder of your memory stick
- Copy h.bin in root of your memory stick
- Plug the AC adaptor

Then, enter in PHOTO MENU and open the overflow.tif , this will launch Version Changer.

Create an USB connection and if the Version Changer has been installed, a new file is created in your root of your memory stick (ms0:/bak_index.dat).

Then go to GAME MENU and launch 1.50 update.

Follow the instructions ...

The installation will stop at 99% and will pop up a message error, but it's normal.

Reboot the PSP, Press O and enjoy :=)

Who we would like to give greetings: Every people devlopping on psp or making the psp scene going further, xboxrepairmods.com, maxconsole.com for their reliable news, killerx for his kxploit, the real founder of the 2.0 overflow (that isn't toc2rta)...

Who we say Fuck to: Alonetrio and what remains of the WAB team, Artik from SPAXXX, Toc2rta lamerz and especially Niacin (as they stole the 2.0 overflow discovery from a pspupdate's forum member) and released crappy code like a useless kernel dumper), Cpasjuste who said Yoshi is a liar but whose main hobby his to steal code form others. Any people who joined toc2rta, People who said shit about Yoshihiro or blamed him, people claiming we had to release the downgrader to them as they owned that priviledge, and people who forgot that devs have a life.

now you have the proof Yoshihiro knows to code and doesn't code shit !

The next one who will say shot about him or any respectable devlopper will get my kick on his ass.

Changelog:
----------

MPH_SXT Downgrader1.0
------------------------

- More stability
- Added text infos
- No need for index.dat file anymore
- Easier for noobs

MPH_SXT Downgrader0.9 beta
---------------------------

- First working downgrader
- First Public version

For People Who Did Not Know, I Used The First One On Mine And Worked Fine Too.

Wasn't sony on about mandatory updates with new games,  if so wouldn't it be dangerous to keep on down grading?

I'm wary of downgrading my 2.0 to 1.5 atm due to the above rumour but at some point I will give it a go.

"Trojan Sucks Life From PSPs
Contributed by DJ Prem on 07 October 2005 - 16:09 CET | 21 Comments and 20 Trackbacks

A new Trojan horse claims to help make PlayStation Portable run homegrown software, but instead the malicious code turns Sony's game player into a useless "brick." The malicious program, which Symantec has labeled "Trojan.PSPBrick," is aimed at a crowd of "modders," or people who seek to hack the portable device so that it can run custom code and official game cartridges.

The new Trojan claims to be software that can roll back a Sony upgrade that has made the device harder to hack. When people install it, the malicious software actually deletes key files and renders the PSP inoperable. "Basically the (PSP) is completely inoperable, and you've lost your device," said Eric Chien, the principal software engineer at Symantec Security Response. "It's called 'bricking." However, Chien said the program is not likely to affect a wide audience, because most PSP owners aren't looking to alter their machines."

Can anyone confirm that the files linked in the stickied tutorial are indeed clean and not the "trojan"?

I'm getting a PSP at the end of this week and will probably have to downgrade it.

btw,
The links in that tutorial were posted before the trojan was created/released.

Yeah... had a little bit of trouble with the first downgrader... the new 1.0 downgrader worked like a charm. :D

Now I'm running a 1.5 PSP with a 1GB memory stick with Dead to Rights, Burnout Legends, Puzzle Bobble Pocket, Death Jr., a Sega Genesis emulator, and an SNES emulator. :D

Another success story here! The homebrew apps on PSP rock.  Many of the interfaces are better than their Xbox counterparts.

I've personally used the downgrader, several times without coming across any problems. It's great to see Yoshi clearing his once bad name from the entire WAB situation.

Works great. I actually have done it over 30 times now. Everything works perfectly if you follow the directions.
I finally found a good use for that 32mb DUO now too. I have it set-up strictly for UPGRADING/DOWNGRADING purposes.

Thanx MPH beerchug.gif

I just got a PSP 2 days ago.  The first day was spent researching how to do this successfully.  Yesterday was spent upgrading then downgrading.  Now it is on to learning how to run emulators.  BTW, great write-ups in the stickies, I appreciate them.

Im having trouble downloading mphdowngrader, tried multiple sites but no luck. I get a screen saying "High Security alert", and that You are not permitted to download the file "MPHDowngrader.zip" because it is infected with the virus "PSP/Brick.A-tr", is any of this anything to worry about and if not can i somehow get past it?

You must cripple Norton for a short time(disable).  Please reads the stickies in this forum as well as others, if you dont, you will brick your PSP.  If you would have read and researched, you would have learned this file is essential for this application, as it is an important exploit.  I am not trying to ream you here bro, but if you do not want your PSP to become a paperweight, I suggest reading every sticky, readme and nfo file when applicable.  Good luck.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

I've done it on 3 so far (2 2.6's, and 1 2.5) All having the same result: a brand spankin new 1.5 psp! I love it. When I read about this downdater, I thought it was BS, like the previous ones (remember lipra fool's downdate bricker?) but it worked perfectly, and anyone can do it with that automated setup. If you mess up, it's your own fault on that one.

oh, and I NEVER had to disable norton for it, so maybe you should scan the downdater your using (not with norton with the psp antivirus program)

dude ... you are talking about the 2.6->1.5 downgrader. this whole thread dates from the period of the 2.0->1.5 downgrader.

norton does flag the MPH 2.0->1.5 as a security risk!!
