from what ive heard, some memory sticks (or psp's) DONT play nice with umd loaders. see if you can grab a MS from a freind to see if it works on theirs. remember, ive only heard this. im not saying its true.

i had same prob mine was psp_game folder tho(not psp_wipe or w/e) and it would freeze until i put a folder called "COMMON" on my root and the "PRX" folder under common ,and then transfer all prx from the sydir of wipeout onto COMMON/PRX/ then delete prx folder from sidir or w/e

You can run ISO's (Backedup Games) on firmware 2.5, you need to downgrade to 1.5
There are several new downgraders that dont use GTA (due to a new exploit that was discovered), its probably easiest for you to upgrade to 2.71 and use the new downgrader to go straight to 1.5.
