Post by: FreewayX327 on April 18, 2005, 06:06:00 PM
I'm going to get a PSP finally biggrin.gif and i was wondering what is the size of the memory stick they are using. I'm thinking of getting a 1 gb because i plan on putting movies on there.

Has anyone found a good price on 1 GB memory stick.  ive seen some for about $150.

I haven't actually got my PSP yet but I ordered it as a value pack. I'm not going to upgrade the memory stick until 2gb are avaliable, because it would be annoying if I got a 1gb then someone found hacks to put PSP games onto the memory stick (which are 1.8gb max)

Not intended for piracy, I would expect PSP games to load quicker off a memory stick, and consume less battery power that's all

Yeah to be honest I'm a bit skeptical about the whole UMD thing, and personally I believe flash memory is the way to go. I supose Sony wanted mass data storage though and to produce a 2gb game would cost more than the income from selling it as 2gb cards are about £150. Still, if I get a 2gb memory stick..

biggrin.gif Not going to use it until it has charged though. According to FedEx I get charged import tax (damnit sad.gif ) But it was £180 (- import tax not included) with a game so that's not bad. I have to say the system looks absolutely luuuuuuuuush

the 2gb sticks are gonna cost about $350+

the cost of the sticks is gunna be what determine's the psp's success as a handheld entertainment center, if they ever want to dominate the PVP market.

biggrin.gif Recieved it and it kicks ass! Only problem is when I convert some videos the sound goes out of time, can anyone point me to a decent converter?

That's what I used but some videos just lagged by about 1 sec. It's ok though I found one called 3GP seems to work really well

Seems the best software is Sony's own, just got that. Small files at fairly decent quality. Think its called image converter 2.1

piracy aside, i assume most games won't take the full 1.8GB. from what i've heard, the scene rips that got release a little while ago are only a few hundred MB each. of course, there's no way to know what future games will be but i suspect a large majority will be smaller than 1GB much like xbox games that are rarely bigger than a 1-layer DVD-R. The capacity allowed on media will almost always be bigger than most games need.
