Title: Error 12 Help
Post by: Linkdead on August 07, 2007, 09:39:00 PM
Well I guess my DVD drive is dead.  I get an error 12 every time I boot my xbox.

The good thing is I never use my DVD drive the box that died is for XBMC only, I play no games and load all files over the LAN.

Anyway what are my options for fixing this.  My xbox is only soft modded so I'm guessing I will need to do a TSOP flash and remove the dvd rom check.  Will I need a working DVD drive to do this or is their any workarounds or other options I can try.

You could always install a chip with a no-dvd check bios.  But if you do a tsop flash you WILL need a working drive because you need to get into the evox/unleashx dashboard.

just "borrow" a friends xbox for a bit (IMG:style_emoticons/default/muhaha.gif) cause you wanna (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) play a system link with your long-lost grandfather (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

if you know anyone who has already opened up their case, borrow their drive for a bit

---about the first sentence: I don't condone lying, but find someone who won't mind you using their drive

I fixed my dvd drive after it stopped playing games with the pot fix. I noticed that if you turn the pot in the wrong direction or too far, it will give you an error 12. Try adjusting your pot and it might fix your drive. Check xbox-scene's main website under original xbox tutorials and it should be there.

I completely destroyed my Thomson laster trying to tweak its pot (it was useless anyway). But I have no problem booting my softmodded 1.0 with that dud inside it (although the tray functions and it's probably recognized as working).
