I bought an Arctic Cooling Feezer 64 Pro and i was wondering if it's possible for a heat sink to come with paste already applied? Im asking b/c i was just looking at the bottom which rests on the cpu and its a grayish 'paste' that can slightly smear if pressed but dry to the touch. Is this the thermal paste? Is it fine for me to apply the actual real thermal paste that i bought seperate? Thank you all for helping me over the paste month or so.

Some heatsinks come with pre-applied thermal grease. It's usually crappy stuff so you're better off removing it, then applying your own.

Thanks. Would i simply just rub it off with a cloth rag until it is clean?

Wipe off, then use alcohol to remove any remnants. I once used carb cleaner when I couldn't find the alcohol.

Just make sure you use something that won't leave a residue behind.
Afterwards, don't touch the surface with your fingers or you'll get some oils on it.

Thanks. Hopefully by next weekend i will have successfully built my first pc from scratch. Ill be sure to take some pics.
