Title: Samsung Drive Wont Eject--missing Motor Belt
Post by: jorwex on May 16, 2007, 02:27:00 PM
My friend brought me his broken unmodded xbox that wouldn't eject the drive tray. It boots to the MS dash fine, but the green light flashes. I thought flashing like that only happened if the dashboard doesn't load up...weird.

Anywho, I took it apart, and he's got a samsung drive. Makes whirring sounds when you try and eject the tray, and sure enough, the little rubber band belt that goes from the tray motor to the next gear thing is just missing.

I don't know if there's some other underlying problem, cuz I don't think the lights would flash only if that was missing (altho it does sound like it tries to spin up when it boots--so maybe thats why the lights go on). He may have tried to fix it himself at one point--and maybe thats why the band is gone. I dunno.

I replaced the drive with mine and everything worked fine, so I know the problem is just with the dvd drive. I'm thinking its just that little rubber band.

So i guess what im asking is, could those lights flashing be indicative only of that rubber band missing?

Thanks. If thats the only reason, and you might have a drive you can steal one from and mail me, check out my BST post:
