Title: Seagate 750 Gb / Dvd2xbox / Modded Xbox Haaaalp!
Post by: jimbobjim on January 21, 2007, 05:41:00 PM
Any partition over 256gb needs to be formatted in 32k clusters using xbpartitioner, or you'll hit corruption at the 256gb mark. You're gonna have to reformat i'm afraid.

Just to add... once formatted in 32k clusters the max partition size wil be 512gb, so you'll need to move 11gb from G to F, xbpartitioner will let you do this.

As you copy 1 file onto your xbox, another will dissapear... somewhere.  It won't necessarily be an entire folder.  It won't even necessarily be an entire file.  But something somewhere will just go away.

Trust me.  There are no alternatives.  Format your drive now before you go insane...

Hey jimbobjim, I'm having a similar problem as well here whenever I FTP files of XBMC over to my Xbox on my 250GB HDD.  Even though my FlashFXP shows as having xfer'd all the files over, when I go into the dirs of the newly xfer'd XBMC, many are 0KB sizes.

What I'm wondering though is, whether once you start experiencing this problem, is the filesystem on your Xbox's HDD screwed up and will need to reformat, or can I just delete junk off of the HDD to create more than ample room to accomodate what I want xfer'd over on to it?  Thanks.

OK I need help again.  I just installed xbpartitioner and I have a problem- the program doesn't fit in my screen so I'm quite worried about what I'm NOT seeing on my screen.

Lets put it this way- what I would like to do is make one partition with all the space.  Are there any tuts online that you could point me to?  I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually but obviously this isn't something I want to screw up.

I was also reading the nfo and it says that you can change the size of one partition and leave the other alone.  I don't think that's an option for me though because the extra space is in the G drive.  If I understand correctly it has to be used in the F drive or it won't work.  Which means I MUST change both partitions.  Ah, to hell with it.  I've got to let it go, I know I know!

Any help at this point would again be much appreciated.

Nevermind...looks like I got it.

Just for clarification:
I allocated the entire 700gb to the F partition and formatted in 32bit clusters.
That should do the trick,  no?

And while I'm at it- why is only 700gb showing up?
I know 5gb is allocated to e: drive so shouldn't it be 745?

I had this problem before, there was 50gb missing...I'm not going to cry about it but I'd just like to know for the future.  If this thing has a 700gb limit I guess I won't be buying that 100terabyte drive in 2010!   muhaha.gif

with a 750 you must use 32k on f:\ and G:\
with a softmod
you must use .67 patcher
f:\ must be 2x137GB in size (do not split the size between F:\ and G:\)
G:\ whatever is left (less then 512)
you must reformat both using a dashboard (xbpartitioner does not format corectly)
i wasted a week to get a 500GB working corectly  mad.gif

you can try .06 and 64k clusters for one big F:\ then reformat using your dashboard
it may work..

if you notice the free space is to close to the theoretical space something is wrong and it will
fail when getting full..... 36 hours of FTP'ing later  mad.gif

When you say I have to format with the dashboard, do you mean file explorer? That's what I used before and it gave me this problem to start with, so I'm a little leery about doing that.
was that before you used xbpartitioner or with 32k and F:\ only (must use 64k in this case)
free space should around 690GB total

you can select 64k clusters in xbpartitioner

is it chiped or softmodded ?
chiped uses .06(all to F:\)  or .67(F:\ and G:\) bios
soft uses .06 or .67 patcher
what is you setup ?

my experenice was with softmodded only
chiped bios may be a little more stable with very large HDD

it was a real pain and after a while you get so pissed you forget what the you have tried (15 or 16 heads
.06 .67 16K 32K) and once it was filled and working it stayed that way  blink.gif

before i used xbpartioner.  i just used it for the first time and used the program to format.   it was made in 32k clusters.  are you saying i should redo it in 64k and then format with file explorer?

you can select 64k clusters in xbpartitioner
ok

ok so its softmodded i should be good, right?

if i get to that point it will all be worth it

Yeah, I ran into that problem with a xbox modded by someone else...and for me to finish.   Nearly 300GB of information had to be retransferred because the idiot didn't format the 400GB drive correctly.

Anyways, I have a dual hard drive setup on my personal Xbox...500GB for games and 750GB for movies... yes, I need a life.  tongue.gif

lol...like I said, I basically had to retransfer everything after I reformatted with XBpartitioner.

The dual hard drive setup allows you to switch between two different hard drives...since you can shoehorn two hard drives in there with some case mods.  There's threads about it.

first, are you sure your using a .67 bios/patcher ???
the standard for .67 is F:\ = 137(16K) G:\ rest of space

what i have found is it don't care it will do what you tell it (xboxpartitioner)

in xboxpartitioner select 32k for F:\ = 2*137=274 (or there about)
make sure NOT to change the start address for G:\
select 32k for G:\

reformat F:\ and G:\ with any dash (evox, ava or other)

the total space should NOT be more then ~690GB
if it's all most 750GB total it's going to fail...

I don't know how to obtain the patcher, but heres screen shots of xbpartitioner from my xbox
IPB Image
^^ Main ^^
IPB Image
^^ Help ^^

The main screen on the top right it shows different format options for when you press start.
If you look at the help screen it tells you to press white to change what the start button dose.  If you press white a few times it will change the top right on the screen to say "Format (16 clusters)"
You press the "Y" button to toggle cluster size for a single format, which would change it between 32 and 16.
#6 Partition is the F partition and #7 is the G partition (i believe)
The issue I'm running into is when i tell it to format #6 in 32 with 492,103.73 MB (of the 500GB hd) It actually formats in 16 clusters with 129434.82 MB. Also when i tell it to format a G drive it says it dose but actually doesn't.

As far as .67 patcher I believe what is stated on the main Page of xbpartitioner on the top left mine says "LBA48 patch v3" is where you would look for that information and mine isn't .67...

Thx xman954 for helping us out

what the hell is the .67 bios patcher? Where would I look for it in the usual place? Does it work with a softmod?
when you installed the softmod it ask you what patcher version .06 or .67 you wanted
.06 F:\ up to 250GB
.67 F:\ 137GB, G:\ rest of space up to 250GB
both assume 16K

now
in the case of 750GB 32k on both F:\ and G:\ should work
in the case of 500GB F:\(16K) and G:\(32K) this is what i used and it finally worked after reformatting
with evox using raw FTP commands (that is when i noticed the free space droped in evox dash for G:\
from when it was just formated with xboxpartioner and took that as a good sign, it was..)
would have liked to have one big F:\ but when the first time i tried it failed after 300GB loaded
and waisting a lot of time, so when it finally worked i was over it  jester.gif

boxplorer G-patched reports (500GB HDD)
F:\ 123,408MB
G:\ 345,825MB
stock partions 8GB
477GB total (slack 23GB ~ 95% of 500GB)
it is now 99% full with no problems  smile.gif

750GB * .95 = 712GB total, if not.......... sad.gif

you can use NKPatcher11 from my sig and compile whatever version you want
along with other options, but some find it hard to figure out.
if you want to try use NKP11_U03

xman i'm confused with nkpatcher.
do i run the make files on my pc?  and then ftp the new default.xbe to the xbox?

or do i put this stuff on the xbox and do it from there?

i was reading elsewhere that krazie's softmod installer has a .67 option...do you think it would be easier for me to go for that option?
this nkpatcher doesn't look TOO complicated...

here's what i'm going to try- get this .67 patcher thing going
retry xbpartitioner in the f: 274g g:whatevers left setup with BOTH formatted in 32k clusters
reformat both drives through unleash x
should work
let xboxpartioner set the F:\ size (default some where around 245-275GB) don't force it

you compile NKP on the PC and use the default.xbe

make sure the config.inc is set the way you need it...
also set it to boot dvd first just in case...that way it can boot a dash disk (slayers or other)

I'm GUESSING its because my dash isn't 5960. Is there a way for me to upgrade the dash at this point
if the gamesave is still working you can allways FTP and fix anything
slayers2.6-2.7 has all the original 5960 MS dash files for the C:\ drive

you can allways try Kingroach's NDURE installer for PC (then FTP it in)
but you will need the 5960 dash files first

I really don't understand why upgrading my dash is such a huge task.
My box started resetting itself endlessly so I just formatted the drive and started over.

Once I got back into the softmod I put in Slayers and upgraded the dash.
My box began restarting endlessly again, so I went back into my softmod and reinstalled the softmod and unleash x.
Now I'm back on my original dash and I'm wondering why I'm having such a problem upgrading the dash.  Is it because I'm using unleash and not evox?

Is there a tutorial anywhere to teach how to do it?  I really feel that this is my last barrier.  Once I do this I can use xbpartition successfully.  Please help.

To upgrade your MS Dash to 5960 you can play a newer game with xboxlive. I always load up Halo2 and try to login to xboxlive before I softmod a xbox. You can go to the MS Dash and go to setting then system info. The screen will scroll down and it will later show some numbers and stuff. Look for the line that starts with a D and look for 5960 in that line. If you don't see 5960 in the line that starts with the D then you need to upgrade it someway. Halo2 always seems to work for me.

Not sure if you got the Nkpatcher thing yet, but...

If you used krazies Ndure you can copy over the EXTRAS folder and then load that up on the xbox. Go into krazies extras and type in the password (AYBX). There it should say either "Install Nkpather .06" or "Install Nkpatcher .67. If it says install .06 then you most likely have .67. But if you just installed Krazies Ndure then it is most likely set to .06 like it was for me (default setting).

I have also read that UnleashedX has a good option for formatting.

Hope this helps.

Dan this box is already modded...but now I know that I should try to do this FIRST.

I was just looking around my xbox hd and I can't even find msdash.xbe...I think that could be the problem here...I don't even have the dash on the drive to upgrade in the first place!

I have NOT installed krayzie's- it won't let me.
I can't stress enough- I have a softmodded box here.  How or where can I get ANY msdash.xbe?

I'm lost here.  I bet you a million $ that this is exactly why I've been having these problems...I don't an msdash to upgrade to begin with!  Where does it reside?  I checked C and E:Backup

Yes but I need to update MSDASH not xboxdash.

Let me explain my problem.

I have a 750gb hd.
I can't get the box to see over 500gb.  Once I hit that mark it simply will not copy anymore.
So I need to reformat with xbpartitioner but before I do that I must update my msdash to 5960 (I forget why to be honest tongue.gif -oh yeah, because xbpartioner won't format a drive that large w/o it)
I've tried a myriad of ways to update the dash but every time I do I get an error msg saying

batch process failed
the last item was .
Action: rename

Now I'm not sure of this 100%- but I highly suspect that I'm getting this msg because I'm missing files in my E:Backup, among them msdash.xbe

At this point I'm hoping someone comes along and says ah-ha- I had this problem- here's what you've got to do!

What softmod did you use? If you have your EEPROM you can always rebuild with xboxhdm. Start from a stock drive (using xboxhdm), run a newer xboxlive game to update dash (rent one if need be), softmod with krazies ndure, use krazies extras to change to .67, then use xbpartioner to change the clusters. There is a update.xbe on the C drive. Wouldn't hurt to give that a go.

It sounds like a fine idea dan...I'm going to try it.  What have I got to lose?

I just wish someone could tell me why I'm getting that error message.  I looked all last night and could find nothing definitive.  Frustrating.  I'll let you know how I make out...gotta get XboxHDM first.

Thanks everyone.

if you still are having problems
make a xboxHDM disk with the "C" files from Slayers2.7\SYSTEM\ALL\c (you must unpack slayers on your PC use Craxtion4.0, Quix any search will find it)
the prefered softmod in E:\udata\XXXXXXXX\
OR
get your xbox to boot any dash (evox, unl X,or other)
use Kingroach's HDURE installer for PC to get the NDTS(NDURE Tool set) and FTP that as a APP
to your xbox and run it, you will be at the real C:\ now
delete everything in C:\ , FTP the slayers "c" files to it

NOW
the C:\ will be MS dash 5960
load the SC gamesave (any)
using FTP delete everything in E:\ (you could now add the gamesave to E:\udata\XXXXXXXX\)
upon reboot the MSdash will recreate E:\cache, tdata, udata
reboot to MS dash, (100% stock C:\ and E:\) now load you prefered softmod with the MS dash and softmod

msdash.xbe is just the orignal xboxdash.xbe renamed and is not used anymore with new softmods
they use xb0xdash.xbe (or other) for dual boot into a live safe dash

if you need a ref for the files in C:\

I have a 500GB with the same problem, but I'm using an X3CE.  I setup/formatted the drive using the built-in X3ConfigLive, and it gave me the same problem - 79.35 GB left on G, and there's corruption.  I guess I figured that since there was an LBA48 option, I was already good to go.

Anyhow, if I use xbpartitioner and format F and G in 32K clusters and reformat in X3ConfigLive, I'll be OK?

Thanks!

just curious, but what on earth do you people use on a 750 gig hard drive?  i mean what on earth could take up so much space?  i could probably put several thousand hours of home movies, a hundred or so games, maybe 500 hours of pr0n, and still not even have half of space filled.  obviously, i am exaggerating (slightly) but what are you putting on a 750 gig that you cant put on a 200 gig drive? i am truly baffled,

smidley if you read my tutorial you'd know NOT to do that.  i don't know what xman was doing but i followed his instrux and had the same problem.

to me, it didn't make sense to format in 32k clusters and then reformat again with the dash (which wouldn't format in 32k clusters!)

long story short- it didn't make sense!  i redid it after formatting in xbpart and it worked.  glad to hear you got it figured out...a month wasted trying to figure it out...i got it now tho~!
