Title: Steelers Rout Colts
Post by: Rustmonkey on January 15, 2006, 02:43:00 PM
Wow, I just have to say this was one of the most intense closing minute of a game I have ever seen in the NFL.  I've never cheered and raged so much in one 30 second span in my life...

GO PITTSBURG!!!

One hell of a game, sorry Peyton Cya next year.

Did Eli get bent over or what. I had to remind myself that he is still pretty much a "rook" though

How's it a rout when a field goal with seconds left on the clock could have sent the game to OT?   Yup, utter domination by Pittsburgh    rolleyes.gif

Ok, you have my permission to change it to "Steelers squeak by Colts... but still WIN!"  And actually, rout implies that they had to dig out or eject the Colts, which digging something out really isn't EASY, so it still kind of fits.

WOOT WOOT

...and in all honesty, I'm actually a Jacksonville fan... but I believe Jerome Bettis deserves a superbowl ring for the outstanding career he's had. smile.gif

I'm actually a Bears fan. With the high powered offense that Rex Grossman offers, (Says that tongue in cheek), I see the Bears going all the way. Actually I'm very suprised by how well they're holding up in this game. And though I hate to see guys get injured I smiled a bit when Foster went down.

i think the ref choked on that obviously long pass interference call that would have put the steelers in the red zone and instead ended up punting to get indy their first three points.  And what's with the troy polamalu non-interception?  And a Bus fumble, on the < 5 yard line, was a rare gift to the colts.  Indy had everything going for them and they just couldn't play with a more prepared pittsburgh club.

Sucks the bears lost, i was hoping for a steelers/bears super bowl

Ill say Denver beats Carolina in the Superbowl.

Go Panthers...  unsure.gif

Agreed... I believe the Steelers will take the superbowl.  The seahawks had a somewhat easy schedule, but will still more than likely be able to take the Panthers... Denver has a well balanced team, but the Steelers have a BIG NAME well balanced team (meaning they have alot more playmakers on both sides of the ball)... but in the end the Seahawks will not be able to compete with the Steelers D.

i think the press mis-uses this word often, i'm pretty sure that i've seen it used to simply describe victory many times even by a small margin (however dictionary.com defines it as "An overwhelming defeat."

Pittsburgh will take the Superbowl.     Manning is our generations version of Dan "The Man" Marino and Tom Brady is our version of Joe Montana.

OK let me be the one to say it....
Tony Dungy is NOT a good coach. Maybe if they fire him and bring Gruden in theyll win a Superbowl just like Tampa. I'm so sick of people trying to lay the blame on Payton. Isn't it the coaches job to adjust the team, not the QB? And how come every time they face the 3-4 defense it's as though they've never seen it before? It's what NE uses to beat em. It's what the Chargers used. Don't you think that they'd come up with a coaching plan to defend against it as they obviously don't have one? I literally could pick the coaching in that game apart for hours. But adjustments and schemes aside, he has no guts. The type of guts where you go for it on 4th and short to get back in the game. (Nice to see manning wave off the kick team) The type of guts that Cowher and Shanahan have shown in going for it on 4ths to win the game right there. Put it out of reach. Same thing Gruden did earlier this year going for 2, instead of a PAT to tie and force OT. It just doesn't seem like Dungy has that. I think we give him a pass becauses he's such a nice guy. And he is. But being a great man doesn't make him a great coach.

I really don't think this is a Peyton Manning thing. If I were starting a football team today, he'd be the absolute first player I'd take. No disrespect to Tom Brady, or Ladanian, or Alexander, or whomever else, but Manning is the best QB in the NFL. And I almost wonder if Big Ben isn't # 2.

Also, if he is the best QB in the NFL, shouldn't he be able to get his team under control and get them on the right track?  The Colts looked like shit all game, ALL game.

No, it's the coaches job to get the team under control. It's the QBs job to throw the ball to the receivers. The Colts look like a totally unprepared team in a playoff game which is inexcusable. Is it Manning's job or Dungy's job to get them ready? Because if it's all the QBs preperation then apparently Trent Dilfer improved significantly in the way he ran his team between the 01 season and 02 season. Coincidentally, Tony Dungy was fired in the offseason and draft picks were traded to free John Gruden from Oakland. That's probably unrelated to the teams sucess though.  wink.gif

I agree with what your saying Rylinkus.  The coach should have made some adjustments, some changes.  And its not all Mannings fault.  I'm a Manning fan.  I wasn't trying to shit on him or anything like that.  In comparing him to Marino (My all time favorite QB), I am saying they are both great QB's, they just can't seem to get it together for the playoffs.  Thats all.   I'm sure if he played for a different coach he'd get different results.

I may also point out that Tom Brady has a better defense behind him.

i'm so fucking pumped.  Any pittsburgh team is obviously my favorite team and bettis is my second vavorite sports play of all time behind mario lemieux (happy retirment!).  I think i'll cry if the steelers win and i see jerome holding the trophy for the first time on his last game in the NFL in his home town on a year big ben promised that if he came back he'd take them to the super bowl.  I can't see it getting any better, he deserves it and i think it'll be one of the greatest sports stories.

I feel kinda bad for Seattle. No one seems to give them any credit. They dont have a good story. All anyone talks about is Big Ben, when Hasselbeks had a hell of a little season. And even though they have the league MVP @ HB, people act as though the Steelers running game is obviously better. I guess I dont get it.
