Officials decide the outcome of the game. The "Tuck Rule" 3 years ago and today the worst pass interference call I have ever seen in a playoff game. That was clearly offensive pass interference. Sure the Pats blew it in the second half, but if they go into the half tied or leading its a completely different game.
Yeah, I got to listen to all the Pats fans last night whining about how the game would have been different if they had called that play the other way. Maybe if NE hadn't turned the ball over 5 times the outcome would have been different. 24 points off turnovers is tough to overcome.

I agree that officials are terrible...but if the NFL makes you sick, what about any other professional sports? The NFL is probably the best, with instant replay...no other sports have that, as far as I know.
My senior year in highschool, I was our starting quarterback. We had a losing season, and lost 3 or 4 games soley based on officials.
One game, we were up by 14 with under a minute left. They scored, and on the ensuing onside kick, the ball went about 5 yards before they recovered it. They called possession for the kicking team. Our coach was furious, of course. He yelled at the officials, and they replied with "We know, we screwed up, but we can't change it now."
At least, in the NFL, officials can reverse bad calls.
Probably the most pathetic officiating I have witnessed was a ref throwing the game becuase the coach was
dating a black guy in YMCA league. Utterly disguisting and blatant.
But PATS SUCK it is our time now. Although I am a cowboys fan....

Dude, every major sport in the US except baseball has instant replay. Hockey, Football, Basketball. Mind you it is only used in certain situations in hockey and basketball. Not like the NFL where they can challenge a play.
As for the officials, they have the hardest job on the field. People have to understand that its a lot different sitting on your couch and seeing something that is obviously a penalty, and being on the field seeing it. There is so much they have to watch and be aware of. And its a matter of angles. Maybe their view was blocked. Maybe they thought they seen something. They are also only human. No one is perfect. They aren't going to make every call, or get every call right.
