Though I'd like to see them again in the playoffs but at full strenght, Dillon, Law, etc. That would probably be a whole different story.
yeah but the steelers rookie QB embarrased Bradey and mcnabb. their second string RB who was averaging like 2 yards per carry had 149 yds. Their starter, staley, who has been playign awesome all year was hurt. Steelers also had other key injuries on defense like their best cornerback, Chad Scott. I don't think the eagles' injuries were any worse than the steelers' injuries. Also on top of outscoring them by 24 points, they were first and 7 with 2 and a half minutes left they just let the time run out. That wouldn't have been a TD for sure imo the way they were playing but you can't argue a field goal at the very least. I love finally being back on my high horse (also a penguins and pirates fan so the steelers doing well is making up for them)
thomes08
I wish I could say they would finally win, but I have a feeling we will lose in the Championship game as usual
Fingers crossed
Steeler's played great, Eagles played shitty. Simple as that. Injuries weren't a factor.
As for the Pats, eh heh. They got plain dicked in the ass having Dillon sit out. Then having Ty Law go down for like what, 4-6 weeks or whatever. Steeler's are good, yes. Super Bowl material? That's a different question.
Teams that are def. going somewhere this year: Pats, Eagles, Chargers (
), Steelers, Jax, Vikings, and Colts if Manning straightens up. I put the Vikings in there as a possibility. If Daunte can get back to his early-season self, and Moss can stay healthy, they are definitely a threat. Oh yeah, and if the Chiefs continue to rack-up their points, they might be a playoff contender as well. And you can count the Falcons out unless Vick can pull his head outta his ass and possibly throw a TD. Ok, enough of my rambling, I'll let you continue arguing over who owns who.
GO BENGALS AND LIONS!
They will most likley win the division they play in as it has always been one of the worst in the nfl., but not the afc. Keep in mind big ben and company almost lost to a team like the lonley cowboys (infact it should have been a loss if but one bonehead mistake in the last few minutes of play) granted they just routed the last two unbeaten teams, but that does not mean much in the nfl, at any given sunday any team can beat anyteam, and I dont feel big ben and company has what it takes to beat teams like the colts when it comes to playoff gameplay.
the clots have to worry about not losing three games in a row before worrying about who's they're going to beat in the playoffs

Had we had Dillon in to run and take some of the pressure off the line and Brady it would have definately been a Patriot Win.
They'll certainly make it to the playoffs, but I doubt they'd beat Peyton.
Part of the reason why donovan didnt do good is because of how good steelers defense is. These last 2 seasons have been a BIG dissapointment after finishing 13-3 in 2001. This could be our year.
you can't just say someone would have won cause you wanted them to, and you can't blame your QB having a bad game with giving no credit to the opponents well respected defense. there isn't one sports commentator on espn or fox sports that has said the steelers weren't the best team right now, and they study this stuff a lot more than we do. Of course this week is another week and all that can change.
i'm not too worried about peyton because their defense is so terrible the steelers offense will slam them imo
thomes08
Big Ben has been putting up weak numbers, but the team is winning.
Sounds just like Tom Brady.
I'd like to see a Patriots-Steelers rematch with both teams at full health.

The steelers looked horrible againsts Cincy last week. Big Ben is not going to keep up his winning ways.
ON the other hand the Pats keep finding ways to win. And thats what you gotta do. There is no way the Steelers would have beat us with Dillon on board. The Colts and Manning cannot beat our Defense.
Here's to back to back SB Championships. |
the steelers' starting running back was out as well, and still is.... it's not my fault they have depth beyond first string
ProSam,
As a big BoSox fan myself, I don't want to argue with you.
But you're saying you can't blame the Patriots for looking weak against the Steelers due to injuries. Yet you say the Steelers are suspect for looking weak while they have injuries.
What's the difference here? When the Patriots came down win an injury, they couldn't get the job done. The Steelers did.
In a rematch, I still give the edge to the Patriots. The Patriots have the best team they've ever assembled, and they are the team to beat in my opinion. I won't question how good this team is (despite the fact I think they were more lucky than good in their past two Super Bowl seasons).
But don't discount the Steelers. Big Ben isn't Favre, but Brady isn't Montana despite what anyone says. All I know is that Big Ben looks better than Brady did at first. A part of the reason why Ben isn't putting up big numbers is the fact that they are a running team first. The Patriots have been a passing team for years, yet Brady hasn't put up numbers either.
The Steelers can chew up the clock and run successfully, even with their starter out. The Steelers have better depth. If the Patriots are healthy, I give them the edge in the playoffs. If not, then watch out.

What is Peyton Manning's record vs the Patriots?
Oh right. He's never beaten them once.
What is Peyton Manning's record in big games over his college and NFL career?
That's right. He's never won a single game.
What is the Colt's defense like? Crap. The Colt's ring up big points on weak teams, and choke against good competition.
I'd put money on either the Steelers or Patriots against the Colts. |

Thats right, The Colts.
Yet another win... |
haah did you watch the game? they won a close game, and scored only 23 points against the 2nd or 3rd worste defense in the league..... i ask again, have the colts beat a team with even a "good" defense yet this year, let alone a stellar?
McNabb is better, no doubt.
So maybe Peyme will break Marino's TD record this year, he'll most certainly win as many superbowls as Marino did.
It's hard to rate QB's against each other. Tom Brady's stats aren't good, but he wins SuperBowls.
Marino and Moon put up huge numbers, and never won a ring.
Guys like Montana put up huge numbers, and won the big games.
I think Peyton is a pretty good QB. But he's not the greatest QB in the world, because smart defenses know how to confuse him and shut him down.
i can't wait till the steelers (#1 D) go against Eli this weekend (saturday)! But he'll probably come around or something and i'll eat my words
thomes08
Eli is painful to watch, hopefully he'll be playing on January 2nd for the game I'll be at.
yeah i would love to say a whole bunch of shit about how the steelers D is going to destroy him, but i don't want to because shit happens..... like the colts' game against the worse D in the league and only scoring 23 points in a close game.... i wouldn't have predicted that but it happened. with the luck i'm having this week (finals week) it wouldn't surprise me if he passed peyton's touchdowns in a single game

i don't like eli either..... i like peyton but eli is one of those guys you don't feel stupid calling a turd

i just got back from pitts..... that place is fucking crazy about the steelers right now. you wouldn't believe how hard it is to find a steelers sweatshirt without a hood (my dad doesn't like the hood, i do). In fact we couldn't find one after a LONG time of searching. I also had a Roethlis-Burger from Brentway Express which claims to have the original. I ordered double meat which is called "The Big Ben".... it was goooooood and was probably 2500 calories. they also sold this shirt which is so cheesey it's funny, i can't believe i didn't buy one but i found
this place to order it from once they get them back in stock.

ok.... the steelers surprised even me yesterday. maddox didn't even play the whole game, st. pierre came in, dice and ward left after the first quarter, bettis and ben out, plax out, a slew of defensive starters out and they still managed to beat them which i didn't expect.
oh and to further the argument about what wins superbowls you guys should read this article on ESPN.com which talk about that playoff matches and how a good defense has success in the postseason.
thomes08
ok the playoff start today and luckily i don't have to get too anxious just yet, not until next week. I'm going to go a little more into the AFC than the NFC because the AFC is what matters to me right now, it'd be cool if one of you NFC'ers would break down your conference for us.
P.S. This is written by someone who wants the best for the Steelers so if you think i'm biased....i am
AFC matchups for playoff week #1
Ney York Jets (10-6) @ San Diego Chargers(12-4)
The Jets beat the Chargers in week 2 32-28 @ San Diego
Passing Yds
C. Pennington NYJ 2673
D. Brees SDG 3159
Rushing Yds
C. Martin NYJ 1697
L. Tomlinson SDG 1335
Receiving Yds
S. Moss NYJ 838
A. Gates SDG 964
I WANT the Jets to win, but my PREDICTION is the Chargers will win.
I want the Jets to win because they have lost 3 of their last 4 games, and one of them was to the steelers who had some injuries but came away with a pretty secure win. Also the Jets' biggest offensive forcw is their RB C. Martin and the pittsburgh has the best rush defense.
I think the Chargers are going to win because they are really hot right now, they won 9 of their last 10 and their only loss during that time was to the Colts who had an amazing comeback to win by a field goal.
My outcome prediction based on pretty much nothing.. Chargers win 27-14
Denver Broncos (10-6) @ Indianapolis Colts (12-4)
The Broncos beat the Colts last weekend 33-14 but the Broncos were playing to make sure they got in the playoffs and the Colts didn't care and had their scrubs in.
Passing Yds
J. Plummer DEN 4089
P. Manning IND 4557
Rushing Yds
R. Droughns DEN 1240
E. James IND 1548
Receiving Yds
R. Smith DEN 1144
R. Wayne IND 1210
I WANT the Broncos to win but my PREDICTION is the Colts will win.
I want the Broncos to win because they are the worst team in the AFC that is in the playoffs and if they could win they would eliminate the hot Colts team as well as go up against the Steelers instead of probably the Chargers, which would be good for the Steelers.
I think the Colts will win because I don't think their defense is bad enough to blow a game against the Broncos that just frankly don't impress me much when thinking about the AFC work horses = Steelers, Pats, Chargers, and Colts. Manning will probably have 3 TD passes and James will probably have another good game, i just don't think the Bronco's will be able to score enough against them to win.
My outcome prediction based on pretty much nothing.. Colts win 34-24
Quick NFC picks......

Green Bay beats Minnesota

lol... you posted that at 7PM 1/9/05, pretty easy to have those picks at that point. Anyway, I went 1-3 with my picks this week, I knew rams-seahawks and jets-chargers would be close so I gave the team with homefield the win.. alot of good that did for me. and as for vikings-packers.... never saw that coming, I thought green bay would kill em.
ok... playoff week 2 is about to start in less than two hours with my steelers against the jets. here's my expert breakdown
AFC
Jets at Steelers Saturday 4:30 ET
Steelers win this one at home. They have had three weeks off which could be good or bad for a team, but i'm going to go for good here just cause they had a lot of injuries throughout the season especially at the end that have recovered.
I AM really nervous however because the jets looked really good last game and the steelers' offense didn't play real well against the jets when they played eachother on dec 12th
Steelers win 20-10
Colts at Patriots Sunday 4:30 ET
This is going to be a really intersting game that i am having trouble comming up with a pick. The colts have such a unique team with a power offense and a defense that wasn't that great in the season but has been doing rather well lately. The colts killed the Bronco's last weekend but the i watched the whole game and the Bronco's made more mistakes than the Colts made good plays. Even if the Bronco's had played well the Colts probably would have had an easy win. The pats on the other hand have been the best team of the last three years in my opinion. They know how to win in big games (which manning has not...yet). This is a really tough call for me so i'm going to go on what i want
Patriots win 27-24
NFC
Rams at Falcons Saturday 8 ET
I don't really care about this game very much but i'm gonna bet the Falcons win this.
Falcons win 30-21
Vikings at Eagles Sunday 1 ET
It's hard to tell what the eagles are going to be like since they haven't really played their starters in a month or so, and are without TO. But i don't think the vikings really have a chance.
Eagles win 30-10
anyone else wanna chare their picks?

Some teams just don't matchup well. Pittsburgh can't seem to play well against the Jets. However, Pittsburgh played quite well against New England earlier in the year.
The big difference right now is that New England is healthier coming into this game. I don't think home field makes a big difference, because both teams are used to playing in high-pressure, cold weather stadiums.
I think New England has a slight edge, but the AFC title game should be a great game.
NE just KILLED the colts. 20-3. THREE POINTS for "the best offense ever"! Once again proves a good offense won't win you the super bowl. And the pats had 2 starting conerbacks out with injuries. I wasn't expecting it to be that much of a blowout though.
I was right on all my picks but my scores were way off hehe
thomes08
) and i was not impressed at all. Not i'm just assuming that it was a combo of Philly having a bad day and Pitts having a good day cause all that's in the past now and doesn't matter. But the city of Philly is a freaking snowball right now, and Atlanta plays in a dome. Not only are the Falcons used to a done, but they also only went 4-4 on the road when there was no snow. To me this is a big disadvantage for the Falcons. They didn't have that great of a record on the road for a team playing in the NFC chapionship game, and i don't think they'll have a good game today when the weather is bad. Kinda like how indy was completely embarassed last week. I think the snow will affect Vick's running game in a negative way and i think the eagles will take this game 24-17. Eagles: if you mess it up this time..... i better see all of you crying.
New England @ Pittsburgh
Here's what has me so nervous. Early in the week people were saying the steelers at home were the underdogs, all this talk about Bill Belichick being the greatest person in the world, and they're stong win over the Colts got me pretty shook up. Then i started thinking positively wheni thought of a few things.
1.) Yes, Corey Dillon DID NOT play in the steelers win over the pats, but the game was lost by 14 points (and AGAIN the steelers took 3 knees inside NE's 10 yd line to just end the game) and the steelers' rushing defense is amazing. C Martin, supposedly the bst RB in the league was stopped to 72 yds the first time he played the steelers, and 79 yd the second time. They can do the same to Corey Dillon.
2.) 90% of football anouncers, "analyzers", writers are idiots (and not that BB isn't a really good coach, cause he is) but they tend to say the most obvious stuff to make them look good. If the steelers win this game because 4th sting RB Willi Parker rushes for 200 yds, they will all be saying Cowher is the best coach ever.... you know it's true.
3.) Now on to the reason the steelers are the home underdogs: NE's win over the Colts was impressive, but, as many people on here and on TV and in the paper and in magazines have been saying all year "Defense wins championships". Not only that but the Colts have no depth. You can't beat the pats at home in the playoffs without a good D and some depth, it just won't happen.
4.)....And the steelers close call against the jets last week has everyone saying Big Ben sucks now and all that. Well first off the steelers NEVER needed big ben to win them the game the way some teams rely on their QB to do. Second he didn't have a really bad game, he had a really really bad 1st half and besides the big int he had a damn good second half. People only look at the overall stats which weren't that great but if you look at them in a timeline of sorts you'll see that his last 30 minutes of play was pretty damn good.
5.) The steelers are playing at home. They are 9-0 at home and the Pats are, i dunno, something like 6-2 on the road. Both teams have a great home atmosphere and both feed well off it. But there is no way this will hurt the steeler' confidence, ESPECIALLY with the home team being the underdogs, it just motivates the steelers to prove the whole world wrong in fron of their home fans, it would just be great.
6.) I chalked this up to luck when my brother mentioned it to me halfway through the season when he told me "this seasons the steelers have just found a way to win the game no matter what", after that when watching a game i thought they were gonna lose, sure enough they found a way to win. Last week wasn't lucky for the steelers and unlucky for the jets. It is a hellofa lot luckier to return a punt for an 80yd td AND an 80yd int for a td than it is for a kicker to miss a 47ys FG under enormous pressure (AND it was being kicked in the open end at Heinz Field, which is the hardest FG to make in the NFL)and a 43 yd FG under tha same conditions. To anyone who has watched a lot of steelers games (i've watched 15 this year) you were probably with me when you were surprised how close that 47yd attempt came to being good.
7.) Some teams don't play well against certain teams. The steelers' two worst games (state-wise) this year were against the jets, so it doesn't have me scared when people talk about how close the game was. Cause odds are 99-1 NE won't have 2 80 TD returns. In fact in the 2 games the stelers played the jets this year, the jets had ZERO offensive TD's.
ahhh there's my thinking on the whole situation. Keep in mind i am a steelers fanatic so the things i wrote were from that perspective. And to me they make sense. I'm not saying the steelers are going to win by 14pts (or 21pts had they not taking 3 knees inside the 10) like they did last time. But i'm saying the steelers will win this game....... 24-21.... here's to hoping
your thoughts....
thomes08
Here's my take on the Snow in Philly. It's way worse for Philly. Atlanta is the #1 rushing team in the league. In the cold, in the snow, in the wind, it's FAR easier to run the ball up the gut then anything else. Atlanta has Dunn. Atlanta has Vick. And, right, Atlanta has Duckett. Philly has a good RB in Westbrook, but he's good because of versatility not great running. If the ball can't be thrown today it's gonna play right into Atlanta's hands.
Hell, they beat GB i@ Lambeau a few years ago in the snow. They can win in Philly if McNabb is effected by the weather.
hey i wan't too far off on my eagles pridiction. Good job to the eagles, they didn't make the falcons look very good. I was impressed with their defense. Like i had assumed they are a much better team than they showed me when they played the steelers.
I'm so fucking nervous for this game that's about to start. I figure if the steelers lose they go 16-2, and i can't be disappointed in that after a 6-10 season.

All of this is pointless....NE was the better team last night period point blank, and C. Dillon was not a non-factor he killed the clock, when he needed to in the 4th qtr. not to mention Big Ben showed his rookie skills, thorwing VERY BAD PASSES that were easily picked, good season Pitt, but NE has a far superior and diciplined Defense, Blitzburg...WTFE should be Burnt-for-6-Burg.
Nothing should be taken away from the Pitt. regular season. They just couldn't get it done with the roolie QB in the offseason. The game against the Jets should have thrown up a warning flag to Steeelers fans that the game with the Patriots could go badly.
The more I watch Tom Brady though, the more I buy into the hype, the guy simply gets it done when need be, and he's surrounded by guys that don't care about anything external to the game, all they want is the W. It's fun watching them play even though I've always been a Colts (Well, actually I'm a Peyton Manning fan, watched him since he was with my favorite college team, Tennesee) and a hometown Rams fan (ever since they moved to St.Louis, not just when they won the SuperBowl, back when they had the BUS).
The Super Bowl should be an awsome game if both teams play their best on both sides of the ball. Either team also has a chance to kill the other if something is off with their defnese.
you can't say shit about pitts defense....... NE's offense didn't do shit. You should consider yourselves lucky. pittsburgh blew 6 plays that cost them the game, NE didn't earn all 6 of those plays and the game was still close. If NE had given up 6 big plays like that the steelers would have romped on them by 30. But shit happens and it wasn't there day. NE didn't play well, pitts just blew it.

Steelers are not going to win the Super Bowl, thread closed.
