Man I was stunned. First Zidane's incredible freekick, and then Gerrard's incredibly stupid back-pass. I mean I was a little sad when France made 1-1, but I would never imagine they'd score 2-1. Beckham said it was his own fault they lost, and I have to agree at some extent, because that was a bad penalty-kick. But he did make an incredible free-kick when Lampard scored, though. I just can't understand why Eriksson allowed Beckham to do the penalty-kick, since(IMO) Beckham never has been that good at penalty-kicks. At least it wasn't Eriksson's fault they lost this time. It's a shame, but I had predicted France would win. Not this way though.

Who reckons if Rooney hadnt been brought down the goal would have been well better than owens against the argies in 98?

FIVE - NIL!!!!  Do I have words for it? Not any good, but still!!! Watch out Italy, it's gonna' be tough out there. Zlatan and Larsson VS. Totti and Vieri, it'll be interesting.

I was really irritated at Sweden's play in the first half because of my high expectations, but when Larsson made 2-0 and a minute later 3-0, I knew it would be a classic in Swedish football. Teddy Lucic ruined Sweden's first half, but when we switched him for Christian Wilhelmsson, everything opened up.

There are no good words to describe the feeling going through the vains of Swedes' at this moment.

                                          5-0    -     STUNNING!!!

CAn't believe how we managed to lose the game, maybe a draw as France did thrash us for the whole of the 2nd half - I seriously can't understand how Eriksson, Beckham and Mclaren all said after the match that it was a good performance, we played shit, if we had won that it would have been far more a surprise than the Greece result.

Bulgaria outplayed Sweden by far until the second (and third) goal(s), but those two goals in a minute would be demoralizing for any team.

ANyone see the Italy-Denmark game?  Denmark deserved to win that and as I have lots of Italian friends I like to that the piss out of the national team whenever they lose.

Looking forward to the Latvia game today...could be an upset biggrin.gif

I know it's easier said then done, but I really don't think one of the elite players in the world (Beckham) should miss a penalty kick.  That ball should have just barely skimmed the inside of the post.

Spency: Do you play football? You at least seem very interested. Do you cheer for any team in specific? Considering you're canadian I suppose either France or England. I had no ideas they showed the games over the atlantic since it's such a small game in America.

jbp: I thought England played rather well, albeit too defensive, but it gave results on the other hand. Too bad it didn't last. And I agree Sweden played not too good, but I wouldn't say they outplayed us. Most over here expected Sweden to be bad in the beginning, except from me. None of my friends were the least worried. And when Lucic went out, we ruled them out completely.

Anyways, Latvia has the lead by one score now. They're absolutely outplayed, but with their extremely thick defense they might actually come out with a point(the chechz will score).

3rd division is pretty good in Sweden, but I have no idea how many divisions you've got. We've got (depending on how many teams there are in your local area) about 6 divisions + Allsvenskan which is the top division.
Nice to see you play it over there. I guess it's a bigger sport in Canada than in USA.

Hope to see an even better 2:nd half now.

BTW: The referee-team is Swedish  beerchug.gif

Mamajo: I thought you were canadian? Anyways, Italy will have mayor troubles with Sweden on friday. What do you think about it? Italy must win, so I believe Sweden will have moyur troubles with Italy as well(that was predicted of course).

I guess 0-0 or 1-1. Unless Italy's changed a lot in their system, which I think they should. But it's not easy to adapt a new system that fast. Vieri and Totti must start running. Trappatoni should've realized you're not unbeatable. IMO he's done a bad job this far.

rolleyes.gif  No, Italy truly underestimated Denmark, which I wasn't surprised about at all. The ones I saw the game with all believed it would be a tie, some even thought Denmark would win, and that wasn't partiality.

I know Italy will take the next match VERY seriously since they HAVE to win and because they know Sweden will be very tough. I would love to see Italy in the next round, but unfortunately we have to beat them to be sure we'll make it to the quarter-finals. Totti will probably not play against Sweden so we have to win, would be embarrasing otherwise tongue.gif I would also love to see Denmark in the next round. Italy HAVE to change their system because Sweden has the same kind of defense as Denmark, and Italy's forwards can't do jack, since they don't run. That's the only chance Italy's got, if their forwards get a little mobile, it'll be tough.

Lantus: You might be a great programmer, but you've got bad taste rolleyes.gif  You're american, right? Do you really care the least, or do you cheer for the underdogs? Anyways, Greece won't win more than one game, the next against Russia, and that's because Russia's already lost the chance to advance. Too bad Greece would beat out either Portugal or Spain, sometimes I just hate underdogs.

Eventhough I don't think they'll advance further than the quarter's, Greece definitely impressed me. No, Greece should be really proud of themselves no matter they advance further than the quarter's or not. And England also impressed me, not as much though. England will probably go far.

The Swedish game wasn't superb until Larsson made his first goal, but THEN it truly was superb play from Sweden.

ADD: Now it's certain Totti won't play, which is great news for Sweden. A bit boring IMO, but he deserves it. I don't want the italians claim they lost because he wasn't on the pitch.

Its a shame they were relegated. I wonder where Viduka will end up - he should have made a move to italy when he had the opportunity a few years ago.

Sorry Gronne but I cant see Sweden beating Italy even though I would like them to as Linderoth plays for my team.

Tonight
England 3 Swiss 0

Linderoth was really good that game. I don't know if he's doing well in Everton, but I've been a bit uncertain about him in the national team. Let's hope he'll continue that way.

I'm more certain than ever Sweden will do well, with Totti away. All I know is Italy might tie, but not win. Now I believe it to be 2-1 or 3-1 to Sweden. I bet England will win today. If everything runs smooth they'll win by 2-0 or 2-1. Switzerland have nothing to lose, but England will be too strong.

Beckham, Rooney and Vassel were the stars of the day, but Switzerland easily could've scored earlier.

Please tell me you aren't serious, Rooney was class, Vassel was great when he came on, but Beckham was VERY poor. He was possibly the worst player (apart from Terry.) Now Lampard on the other hand was immense, imho he is Englands current best midfielder and I think he will score two against Croatia.

Against Swiss we were very lucky, I think we were the worse side and yet we won 3-0... Then again Sweden also weren't that much better and they won 5-0!!!
I want Sven to drop Owen because he's overated, but he won't because he's blind or something  sad.gif

Sweden-Italy 1-1. Eventhough I predicted a tie or maybe a win for Sweden, I must be happy with the result. What I'm not very ahppy about is Swedens play. Italy played like gods the first half, and stupidly enough they defended way too much in the second. But Zlatan's goal was utmost significant. I ran around the apartment like a nut in happiness. His goal will be a classic, no doubt.

Sweden didn't play that bad though, our midfielders didn't do well, but our forwards were good (Henrik didn't do much, but he seldom does until he all of a sudden scores).

Now we're up for Denmark, which I'm really afraid of, most here think we'll make it pretty easy, but I'm not so sure, 'cause the danes have some great players.

I'm positively surprised you've bet money on Sweden, but if you ask me it's a waste. Sweden might be good, but we won't win the championship, hell, we might not make it to the quarters.

About the game yesterday though, damn it was good. The Czechs really deserved to win. Advocaat will have to leave a sign of his resignation ASAP.

Should be an interesting game with Portugal-Spain today. Eventhough it'd be good for the tournament if Portugal won, I'd put my money on Spain.

I'm glad Portugal made it, for the sake of the tournament.

Tonight England's up against Croatia. It'll be an ugly game, and I think it'll be a draw, 1-1. I hope England wins, but I wouldn't be surprised if Croatia play them out. Croatia is definitely underestimated.

Rooney will save England from a lost.

Yeah, well I was at least right about Pelé.... sorry, Rooney saving England.

I'm glad England won, but I'm afraid of a possible meeting with them.

Tonight Sweden meet Denmark, and I'm starting to think Denmark will actually win. They are very solid in their play, even more than the Swedes. But we WILL win, or at least get a tie (2-2 would be very nice since both would end up in the quarter's with that result). I fear Grönkjaer, Gravesen and Tomasson. But on the other hand we've got Zlatan, Larsson and Ljungberg. No matter what it'll be an exciting match, and I'm nervous as hell.

I'm glad they're out though, they should have taken advantage of their play against Sweden in the first half and scored at least two goals - they are very boring to watch most of the time and just scrape ther way through most matches.  I dunno why they got rid of Dino Zoff after Euro 2000.

BTW, the Czech Rep. are looking great, they were a bit edgy against Latvia but really desrved to win against Holland imo.  Wonder if they'll be bothered to play flat-out against Germany seeing that they are already top of the group whatever happens.

I knew Urs Meier would screw up when I saw he was the ref, he always does.

England played pretty ok, but it's not unfair Portugal won. All teams that start defending their lead when only 30 minutes are played are doomed to lose, but on the other hand all great teams do. I bet we'll see a change of that in a near future.
English media don't seem to blame Svennis(that's what we call Mr. Eriksson in Sweden). Even I think he should be blamed a bit since they played too defensive.

England could've gone far with this team, but that didn't happen so there's no reason to whine all day long. You might go far in Germany 2006.

The Porugese deserved to win, i dont doubt that.
We played shit. we looked knackered out there, the heat crippled us. But if you cant stand the heat get out the kitchen, i am not using it as an excuse because we were totally crap.
It was like against the french we defended very well for 90 minutes but thats not the way i like seing football be played. We have world class attacking players so why do we defend?
Fact is if it wasnt for the shit ref we would have won the game in normal time, even if we didnt deserve to. A perfectly good goal was ruled out, but there is a game like that in every tournament its hard lines but tough shit!

We are bound to be a bit pissed off or is following football an emotionless experiance for you?

Incredibly solid play by Greece. So well controlled. I'm truly impressed. Now there's no country with more than 16 million(Netherlands) inhabitants left.

Any team could have won, Sweden happened to lose. Life could've been worse, not much, but still.

I'm too tired wanting to declare Holland war. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow.
Life's a bitch. I was surprised Holland could hold the game that well, since Sweden seemed very good in the back-line. I thought Holland would be furious they couldn't score. I didn't see much of that, unfortunately. It's fair though, eventhough it just as well could have been Sweden.

I'm about to sleep now, I just hope I won't start crying when I wake up, realizing it's true.

Anyway, there's another championship in 2 years, and then I'll be at set.

the english didnt react well at all. they're blaming everything from the pitch to santa claus, and they will harp on about it for all eternity, failing to accept the fact that england simply played sh1t and didnt deserve to win it one bit.And dont forget what happened to the red lion bar - oh dear, all that over a sport, get a life you losers.England believe they have some god-given right to win - they dont.you earn victories. If they played well against them, then they would have won without any last minutes antics. There are so many occasions in the premiership when a keeper falls down at the slightest touch, or in some cases when theres no touch, and the ref still gives a free kick, but no one really moans too much, since thats the rules nowadays.now all of a sudden england expect the referees to adjust the rules according to their wishes. At least one engand player admits that looking for scapegoats is not the right thing - gary neville, and thats because he is so rubbish, he has some humility, unlike the rest of the overpaid retards- no surprise to see owen, lampard, terry and beckham whinge all night long.

tbh we (England) didn't play well at all, we were sloppy at times, but the manner in which we were denied a goal pissed me off quite a bit. I was rather pissed off at the decision, but no arguing with it, nothing can happen about it now and I see it as a good thing that we came so close to winning without playing too well. But all in all, Rui Costa's goal was good enough to win any match

I don't think the competition is as fucked up as wc2002, I mean Germany were in the final after beating the likes of Paraguay, the USA and Korea and the 3rd place final was between Korea and Turkey - hardly team of a high calibre!
