Title: Whats The Best Guide To Follow?
Post by: dan_plus_o on November 03, 2006, 09:47:00 PM
What is the best guide to follow when upgrading the HDD? Can you post a link to that tutorial?

My Xbox:
V1.3
DuoX2 GS (blue one)
The HDD is a 30GB Quantium

Also what jumper settings should the HDD be set at? It has 4 spots and I am not sure which one is what, so can you tell me which SPOT the jumper should go on, instead of telling me something like, "set it to master". Or are all HDDs different?

All HDDs are different. It will need to be set to cable select, which is normally the position it comes preset from out of the box.

if you have a chip, just install the new HDD, and run slayers or AID.

yeah, I never think to say that. I rarely use the stock bios, and dont play on XBL. I mainly use my xbox for XBMC.

My old hard drive is shot. Does anybody have the original files they can send me? I have a non-modded xbox. But I have both AID and that Slayer's thing. When I try to load either one of those I get errors. I think I need to lock the HD on my pc. Can someone help? Thanks!

I know where to get all the tools and stuff, so you don't need to explain that.

If you can help PLEASE contact me.

You'll have to install a modchip to use a new HDD.

I can't just use that porgram (forgot what it's called), format the drive, add all the files, and then lock it?

If I can't, I can just unlock my orginial hard drive and add the file I accidently removed then relock?

the only way to do that is if you extracted the key before the HDD was shot. If you did that (which I highly doubt you did), I believe you can relock a new HDD with the same key

What i meant was shot was that I addidently removed the evox kernal file. The drive works, I can play games, but I cannot get to my dash board. I get that error "21", and for some reason I can't run auto installer disk, only games. Any more help?

You can't run auto installer discs because they are burnt and they won't work unless you mod your xbox.

I think you can use a program called "xboxhdm" to put the file back on. You will have to HOT SWAP. Hot swapping can be impossible to do. I ried to do it over 20 times atleast with my xbox and pc and I couldn't get it. It probably depends on the computer.

I don't know much about xboxhdm, so I can't tell you how to do it. There is a guide on this site that is all about xboxhdm, so look around in the tutorial section for it.

I would just get a mod chip. I just installed my first chip the other day and it went really smooth. booted up the box and it worked on first try.... Good thing too because I forgot to buy desoldering braid (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Get a DuoX 2 GS from www.sickmods.net for only $15. I live in canada and I got my chip within 2 weeks.

HMMM... you are a very confusing person....

So is your xbox modded or not? First you say you have a non-modded xbox then you say you will try and RE-mod it.

If you have the game saves on there from a previous soft mod then definately try doing it that way. You should be able to get to a evox menu or something and then FTP to your xbox. I don't know anything about the kernal or what the heck it is, so I won't say anything about that.

Thats the stupidest thing I have ever heard. I will be able to get 7-8 games on there. And there are about 7-8 games that I really like and always play, so I put them on the HDD and I have easy access to them and they load faster. Why would it be a waste of time?  huh.gif  huh.gif

What did you expect from a noob? Hell, 30gb is plenty if the only thing you use it for is a media center.

It was modded with Evox, then with AID I installed the default dash board and it completely mest everything up. I tryed to re-mod back to evox but looks like my dumb friend removed the game save as well.. lucky me..

Any way i'm going to try to do that hot swapping trick. I REALLY hope this works. There's enough tutorials to keep me reading for days on this stuff, hopefully I get it to work..

If you have any problems hot-swapping, let me know. I can help you out.

I got the hot swap to work my second time! Of course with ghettoc401's help. All I did was put a game in my xbox, counted to 20, undid the xbox's ide cable, then turned on my pc, pressed "Pause/Break" then plugged in the hd, then pressed esc which continues the boot process and the hd was unlocked! I went into xbrowser and did what I wanted there.

Good thing I didn't have to buy a chip.
