Title: Banned Hdd Key
Post by: akspud93 on October 21, 2006, 04:10:00 PM
Tech Info:

Xbox version 1.0
Dash (unleash X)
Chip: Xecuter 3ce
disk drive: (stock) thompson
Hard Drive (upgraded from original) Maxtor 80GB HDD

When I was originally banned I was using the stock xbox HDD, then I happened to come across a maxtor IDE drive so I figured why not, so I got it up an running efficiently but now I know there is one more thing I have to do with the eeprom before I get back on live.  I've heard that they ban the hdd key on the eeprom, however I'm not sure how true this is.  Regardless I have configmagic and am able to get all the codes etc. but am not sure how to go about getting a valid HDD key to change it to.  Any thoughts would be much appreciated?

You can't just change the hdd key, you need a whole new eeprom and STOCK! hdd. Any other than  astock will get you banned again (if using the same GT).

$10 from Zodiiak (in the b/s/t).
His thread is usually within the first few pages since he's so popular.

In the Xbox b/s/t there's a great seller for eeproms. You don't need a new hdd though i dont think. Don't take my word for it though.

edit: dang you beat me to it lol

I think Makeshift420 is incorrect.  I believe that when your eeprom is check an HDD is paired with it.  If you switch drives you need to switch eeproms as well or you will get banned.  That means, if your eeprom is banned, the drive serial is banned as well.

Do some checking on this... Does anyone know for sure if the eeprom and drive serial are both check by XBL?

I have heard similar things as well, I do have a new HDD since I was banned, as well as a new gametag so all I need is a new eeprom.  I have heard rumors however that it is a common misconception that you need an entirley new eeprom.bin file and infact all you need to do it manually edit it in configmagic to legitimate keys that are not banned.  This seemed too good to be true however?
