Title: Overheating? (pics Included)
Post by: Lord_Darian on September 28, 2006, 10:17:00 AM
That appears to be corrosion (is it especially damp where the Xbox is kept?) or water damage. I would suggest wiping the motherboard down with denatured alcohol and a lint free cloth. Make sure it's completely dry before re-installing it and powering up.

thats just laquer on the board thats been heated. but it shouldnt cause the mobo to stop working. if the xbox overheats it will shut off. thats it. but it just flashes red once huh?

yea, i would say that that looks like water damage too, it doesn't take that much it doesn't really apper to be laquer, as it usualy turns brown or darker when heated on mobos if it was an overheating issue it would flash red and orange
don't worry about your mobo tho, it isn't dead

Maybe someone spilled something near it when you weren't around, and you were never told.
Siblings are great about doing that . My sister broke my laptop 10-12 years ago and never told me she did it until about 6 months ago.

its not corrosion i had a 1.6 that had the same coloration and it was from the heat from the components on the board not any liquid of any kind. oh the laquer wont turn brown unless it gets extreme heat ala "soldering iron".
edit: just looked at the pic again and saw its a 1.6 so there ya go

Your 1.6 did work anyway?
yup no problem. it did run a little hot to about 55-59 celcious. but ran fine

eh, maybe it is laquer then, i've just never seen ot before like tat on any of my 3 1.6s also, low heat temps can cause brown/darker green discoloration, it just takes time , not a lot of heat (this will speed up the process tho) it's kinda like cooking, if you turn it on high eat, the it will get burnt faster that lower heat
ok, back to his problem it isn't over heating, so we can cross tat out maybe corrupt bios?

Little update: I updated the bios once again, and now cd/dvd drive doesn't make any clicks. And xbox doesn't reboot anymore after putting power on. And yes, I got still black screen if I try to start xbox with own bios or original bios. Maybe something wrong with eeprom? This is just guessing.

the three clicks is most likely your hard drive, not you dvd drive and it sounds like you used 1.6 bios maybe?

Yes, hynix ram and bios is M8+. I took IDE cable off and started xbox. I chose original bios on the smartxx menu, but I still got just black screen (no error codes). Same with M8+. Weird
