Title: Mod Chip Died Xbox Blinking Red
Post by: xterra13 on July 29, 2006, 06:01:00 PM
I had an Xecuter 2 lite chip installed and due to some unfortunate roughhousing the modchip was jostled loose.  When this happened the plug from the chip to the motherboard came loose and now my xbox flashes the red light when it is turned on.  I have tried reconnecting the mod chip to no avail.  Any suggestions?

Is it fragging (flashing red and green) or is it only flashing red.

By the 'plug' do you mean the male, or the female pinheader? If its the female, its just a matter of plugging it back in. If its the male, then you must have roughhoused the crap out of the xbox, and you probably tore some traces or vias.

If by chance you have a solderless chip (I dont know what the X2 Lite is offhand) then you have two choices:
- reseat the chip and hope it works
- get a soldered-in modchip, like the DuoX2

If the xbox is flashing just red, then your EEPROM is hosed. Couldnt tell you how that happened, unless you tore some traces, or were screwing around in ConfigMagic

It is flashing only red.
Here is what i suspect happened.  The switches for the chip were placed under the front lip of the console. the switchboard was kicked with a foot as someone walked past it.  This ripped the connector off the mod chip see the attached pic.  The connector in question is the white one on the left side of the mod chip. This caused some sort of short on the modchip which rendered it unusable. Any suggestions now?
