Title: 1080p Screens Finally Dropping Price In Europe?
Post by: XanTium on November 16, 2006, 10:50:00 AM
It took time for real native 1080p screens to come to Europe ... and now I noticed they are finally starting to seriously drop in price (still expensive however).

We never really got many 1080i screens here ... so it seems like the market will make the jump directly from 720p to 1080p.

Some prices ... check out the diff. between september 2006 and today (including VAT):
* Sony KDL-46X2000: 4400eur (sept) - 3500 (today)
* Sony KDL-46W2000: 3500 (oct) - 2800 (today)
* Samsung LE46F71B: 3400eur (sept) - 3015 (today)
* Samsung LE40F41B: 2700eur (sept) - 2250 (today)

Will 2007 be the year of the 1080p TVs?

I have only just noticed 1080p televisions being advertised over here in UK.

I can't wait till the price decreases within in my budget, I have put off buying a 'HD ready 720p' set till now and it looks like my next tele will be a 1080p!.

I bet everyone who has recently bought a 720p television will be a bit miffed if 1080p takes over quickly.. I would be.

We jumped in and got a Pioneer last year (yay for tax refunds!) which supports upto 1080p (unfortunatley, not over component) but has a native res of 1024x768.  However, this means that is has an excellent scaler so all HD content looks amazing, and SDTV still looks decent, which is a plus since we are still watching freeview.

I got a HD TV from Woolworths (of all places) for £400.  Its 32" and has a DVI and HDMI port.  I thought i would be kinda crap, but its really really good.  Using it right now for my PC with a DVI-HDMI cable  tongue.gif

If its the one i think it is its a generic make with 1366x768 resolution and uses a phillips chipset. I`ve got one and a Home cinema mate reckons the picture is bloody excellent . I use it for PC and Xbox360 work. Think Asdas sell it as with a  Dual  badge on it. Don`t know the response time of it but it seems excellent on games. Hope this helps
