Also, what are all of the apps running?

Upper right tab clicks to slide out showing HD space, Lower right tab clicks out to show cpu usage, center bottom tab clicks and slides up to control winamp, and the lower left tab clicks to slide out showing new gmail notifications such as new mail. Working on top and center tab and upper left tab as well.  Not done.

^^you have so much clutter on your desktop...

Prices on bagles.txt??? Is that really so important to you that you need it within arms reach at all times??
I see you have an empty folder called "Xbox and Xbox 360 MODIFIED FIRMWARE"  laugh.gif
You got alot of media players... wouldn't codecs be simpler?

Oh and i did pick up:
"How to get crunk(i assume drunk) and romance soupy's mom /cattykid ROFLs"

Can't videos be a sub folder of amazing videos?
How about a music folder?? Storage folder??

Are you afraid of getting arthritis? You need the shortest route possible to your files??

jk biggrin.gif

One serious question though, what's AirSnare?

I looked at the desktop.. and I got a headache from it. Too much crap on that desktop. I think desktops like that are what inspire people to make new shells to minimize the clutter.

My daily habits are to work on the desktop.. then shovel all the end results into the documents folder each night..

What makes you think it's empty?  No, I actually am La Especialista (de Guadalajara, for all you Destinos fans out there), the Spansh Specialist.  So, if you are nice enough to me, I may release a little somthing...
Amazing Videos was meant to be filled with... amazing videos (like the Striker Video from Geometry Wars).  Unfortunately, I am very difficult to amaze and the folder remains empty.
Videos was for a project we did.  Record the video on Hi-8.  Burn to DVD.  Rip DVD to Computer.  Find program to edit DVD (took HOURS).  Put video on flash drive.  Burn DVD on father's laptop.  Try to figure out whyDVD is so jumpy.  Get other program to burn DVD that can't burn .vobs.  It was horrible.  I left out all the other steps and obscenities.

_iffy... AirSnare monitors wireless activity (and wired) either through a wireless card or through a computer connected to a wireless router (in my case) via ethernet cable.  It gives MAC addresses, IPs, and some other information.  I just had it to dick around.  Also, all this stuff doesn't have a home, so it goes to the desktop to die (then gets deleted several months later).  As to the Prices On Bagels.txt, the duties of a Class President never end (but that is another HUGE story).
As to the Media Players, they SHOULD soon be gone.  I got Kazaa Klite Codec pack a month or so ago, but haven't gotten around to deleting everything else.  Plus I just like to let installers sit there.

X-S is always fullscreen, so I don't even see it.

EDIT:
I just deleted 2 gig off of my desktop and moved a bunch of stuff.  I now have 2 icons, My Computer and Recycle Bin.  HSD, I'm going to try that theme.

lucky for me I wear a different cap than you. The art is still art, whether it's 3200 wide or 640. But I think we're gonna have people be a bit more respectful of our forum layout. Thos bastard wide ones complete fuck the layout.. and cause us all to scroll.

I got 19 and 21 inch lcds, and I still have to scroll for some..

So it's up to the people.. people can either start being smarter about how they post.. or we can make it a hard rule and find someone to stick around and smack people around.

it takes only a few extra seconds to use an app to make a resized version.

Nope its XP (thats why i said it, i thought people would think its Mac tongue.gif ). Nice to see someone liked it though, i get the good looks of Mac and am still able to run all my windows apps.

Running:

Mac Wallpaper (Aqua)
Windows Blinds (But you cant see that because i have no windows open, I'm running the same brushed skin as my desktop)
Icon Packer (Aqua 2 + Icons Ripped from OSX 10.3)
Object Dock
Desktop Icons Disabled along with the task bar.
And the Widdgets (Weather and the stuff in the bottom right) is Yahoos Widget engine. (used to be konfabulator)

But it wasnt free, Windows blinds and Object dock were not realy expensive. I cant even remember what i paid, i have had them ages.

either way samurize is pretty stable, i used to frequent their forums quite often but kinda fell out. Its mostly just a community with people writing more plugins for it. Ive been using it for a couple years now and couldnt think of going back.

widgets huh..

want to school us a bit on them.. they look slick.

A widget is just a small app ran on the desktop (basicly just       JavaScript and XML packed into one file, then launched through a java runtime engine.), it all started with Konfabulator (now the Yahoo widget engine). After Konfabulator was released, widgets were adopted to the Mac OS and then more apps were released to do the same thing on Windows.

The reason i use the Yahoo engine is that samurize crashes, a lot, and because on samurize all the widgets are ran through one engine, if one goes, they all go. But with the yahoo engine it runs multiple intances.
Its true to say that samurize can do alot and is highly customizable, but the YWE is more stable and the widgets just look much better.

not much changed.. but I gave that Samurize a try again.. didn't like alot of the scripts and outdated stuff on their homepge. It's alot to go through. Started messing with the sample ini though..

IPB Image

.. and added what little I needed for my desktop. I was looking for a really simple RSS feed script/tool for samurize but didn't see anything I liked. If you got any recommendations for a clean Samurize 1 liner let me know.

I'll have to look at the Yahoo stuff.. seems people got alot of good to say about it.

THAT'S what a widget is.
Just go to Google and search for Yahoo and Widget.  You get a bunch standard and can download SO many more.
Anyone notice that Photobucket is slow as dirt lately?????
There's also an Xbox Live Friends Widget out there.  VERY cool.  You can't see it on my desktop b/c I can't at this moment remember what  email and password I signed up for Live with, I have to check

Tossed the HD monitor widget.. it was nice.. but not very customizable. the red burned my eyes. Swapped it out for a simple photo one.

Really digging the notpad though.

As for those asking about the weather..

go to widgets.yahoo.com and search for weather. Do the same for anything of interest.

I had some zombies running about the desktop too for awhile..

@netdevil. I gotta thank you for the heads up on those Yahoo Widgets, their awesome, and now I'm hooked.

I posted a screenie of my new desktop digs. If anyone's interested in those widgets I listed links below.
Now here's a widget to keep an eye out for, but its currently very buggy and crashes often --> App Launcher. There's a bunch of these app launchers, but this one looks to be about the best. The author is currently trying to work out the bugs and add new functions. I put in a recommendation to add folder and drive shortcut support, hopefully he'll do it. If he adds that, then this thing will be about the best launcher on the ever.

yeah, i liked windows blinds, but the trial ran out, so uninstalled it. when i re-installed it recently my whole system slows down to a crawl, and it takes 5 minutes to open up my desktop properties to put everything back to normal...
style XP is pretty sweet, but aston is uber-easy on the system resources... too bad it doesn't have application skinning capabilities...

Edit Meters Tab:
Add Meter> Add Text

Then delete all the text and go to sub-tab 'Input' and Check the box allowing input controls.
Then choose how you want to click your buttons to control winamp, such as right or left click, single or double clicks, or just mouse overs.

Then choose Plugin under action type, and then select the winamp plugin. I myself have never used winamp, nor know where to get it, but if you could HSD, lend me a link on where to DL it, if legal.  And possible send me the .ini file of yours to control winamp.

Thanks.

EDIT: Where did you get the, old notepad you had, and the rss feeder (if i can get feeds from places like hackaday or somewhere else) or are those both in samurize, I like yahoo, but I use both.

Click for Hi rez (and easier to read)

the hi rez details the ins and outs of this desktop mod. With that Samurize help, I was able to add simple and effective winamp controls, and a progress bar. The Bar migrates from light to dark.

The Hard Drive Area looks as it has for a week now.. the difference is that now there is a transparency level over them, that when click opens the relvant drive folder. Handy.

I'm still having issues getting pleasing results when trying to display download/network activity. Will need to investigate it further.

I took alot of time, to clean up the Samurize script I made, so that if you want to use, edit, or learn from it it's pretty clear. Areas of importance are all detailed now..

Winamp display, Progreess bar, borders, and controls,
Hard drive Stats, Text, Progress Bars, Borders, and clickable areas.

Download the HSD custom script: http://pictures.xbox...urizeCustom.zip

as long as the stuff lost wasn't scholl or work related W.I.P stuff.. you just go on.

A couple of years ago.. I was beta testing an early xlink version, it was flaky at the time, caused 3 reboots, and broke a raid strip. 200gb of stuff down the shitter. I was upset for weeks.

In the end.. you move on, change some habits. Learn a lesson or two.

Media is getting to the point where DVD blanks are dirt cheap for quick and dirty backups. Even Hard drives are coming down in price, so it's nothing to have a few small (say.. 120gb) ide drives in external enclosures you hook up only for a quick backup or two.

don't know. I don't touch WindowBlinds. If memory serves, that's made by Stardock, and I'm not a fan of their flaky stuff.

I use StyleXP, which in current versions, is pretty stable. I did find that Samurize can be a CPU hog.. but that was my fault. I had messed around with some of it's settings, and found that it's native refresh was tame at 1200ms. I upped it to 50 and then notice all of a sudden that I was idling on the pc with 100 % usage. I bumbed it back to a reasonable level.

I was trying to increase the speed and quality of a scrolling display..

i wish i knew how to code for it, because if you could just extrapolate a little bit with a lower refresh rate everything would look a lot smoother

Had some time to burn tonight waiting for a family member to get out of the hospital.. (turns out she won't..) Anyways...

(IMG:http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/hsdemonz/CurrentPC-April2006/April16.jpg)

High Rez : http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/hsdemonz/Cu...006/April16.jpg

Same Widgets etc as before. Nothing new or interesting there. Spent some more time with Samurize. Still can figure out alot of things with it.. but I've slowly progressed with it..

(IMG:http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/hsdemonz/CurrentPC-April2006/April16winamp.jpg)

New Winamp interface and display. Added more or less full ID3 tag info, and Cover diaplay. It's interactive as well, the Cover, when clicked does PLAY/PAUSE.  The Current Track Time does PREVIOUS TRACK, the Total Track Time does NEXT TRACK, and clicking on the ID3 info launches Winamp Proper.

(IMG:http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/hsdemonz/CurrentPC-April2006/April16irc.jpg)

This was really cool, and easy to add. I had wrongly assumed that to get IRC to display, I'd need some whacked plugin or coding. Which was not the case at all. Simply told Samurize to load a text file, read the last bunch of lines, and display. As long as an irc client is writing the log file somewhere, it can be displayed easily.

(IMG:http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/hsdemonz/CurrentPC-April2006/April16harddrivestats.jpg)

The PC/Hard Drive Stats continue to evolve.  the Progress Bars now have a transluscent Black background, with a blue to red aplha blend during progression, running behind test showing Drive space left. Added the Drive READ and WRITE "leds" (Green = Read, Yellow = Write)

The Drives, also, when clicked on load their respective folders.

the USED/FREE ram and Uptime indicators still don't look right.. might toss them.

Comments welcome..

the read/write "leds" arent centered on their respective lines. try unchecking the snap to grid in samurize and just tap them with your arrow keys in samurize

i really dig your winamp portion, think ill have to add that here pretty soon

for your uptime, my preference is just to have days hrs minutes. whenever i have seconds it starts to annoy me for some reason

possible idea on the ram is to do a similar progressbar from your HD's and just have the max be your total ram

looks awesome though, glad to see you getting into samurize. Whats the average draw from your client.exe?

His Leds are centered correctly.  Because it seems that he can have both of them in one bar, read on top, write on bottom half.

Yah, for each drive, I have two "leds"

Green for Read, Yellow for Write, and sometimes.. dpeending on activity.. they both display..

they kind of look like a semi colon

:

I might adjust the uptime as well. it doesn't annoy me..

Added a reliable Up/Down bytes meters.. dunno if I'll keep it. Displayes the bytes properly, but doesn't properly convert to kb.

What you see in the above desktop.. according to Task Man, is taking about 12-15% cpu load. (and 6444 K)

More of a hit than I'd like.. but.. I got a beefy machine so I'm not concerned.

What do recommend to change icon styles HSDEMONZ?

Also, I haven't updated my konfabulator since I saw it was bought out by Yahoo.  Does updating put any uneccessary yahoo crap all over your pc?  All my widgets still work.  I guess since they do no sense in updating.

missed this one..

I use Style XP for my start bar customization.. it does icons as well.

high rez -> http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/hsdemonz/Cu...006/April17.jpg

90% Widget dump. Everything short of the weather is now Samurize. I'm not a fan of the current weather script tools for Samurize.. Might have to plow through it though. Want to dump Widgets completely so that I can have a truly unified look.

Decided I liked having my stuff on the side again. It's the natural way I work anyways. Having stuff across the bottom wasn't working for me.

You'll notice from previous desktops.. that the side bar I now use looks alot like the old widget collections of a week ago. It's meant to. With Samurize though.. with each day, and some more plowing through scripts, readme.txt, and study of others work I've slowly been able to carve up my own vision.

The other day I added the ability to display covers sourced from the net on the fly. That worked great for stuff it could find. Stuff it couldn't, would leave an empty display area. I've since added options for it to display LOADING.. when downloading a cover.. and NO COVER when it fails to find one. Also learned that it will grab pics in the same DIR and "guess" which is the cover when more than one is present.

The calendar I have now.. is a Samurize DLL meticulously configured to look like the original Widget I had for that.

Found some nice icons for headphones, nic, and hard drive, which I added. All of there "backgrounds" are rounded rectangles from photoshop, added with 120 alpha. This allow the sidebar to look good with just about any color wallpaper, and most light or heavy detailed ones as well.

The side bar as you see it on the desktop above is all in a single INI file, for simple convience. However, they were all made in separate ini files, "widget" style.  What I did notice, is that Samurize has a CPU "leak".

All of these components you see.. when separated into their separate ini files, take up on average a total of 6-12 percent less CPU load. Put them all in one file, and it adds 6-12% overhead. No Idea why. My box can take it without a problem. But, I can now see why many don't many huge all encompassing INI files with samurize as it could be crippling. If I fine I want to add much more, I'll load them separately for the saving on the cpu load.

ok.. been logging the samurize sidebar.. both as a single config, and as six separate configs.

As one, usage is 18-29%

As Six, usage is less that 18%

Go figure.

hi rez.. http://pictures.xbox-scene.com/hsdemonz/Cu...006/April19.jpg

I'm done. I doubt I'll touch it anymore. Still like to use a samurize weather script.. but it's not worth the time at this point.  Put my Notepad back in. Works simple enough.. click in the area, and it opens a .TXT file. When done, save, and the script auto reads the updated file and displays it with the ADD TEXT FILE meter.

I love all the effects, like when you close windows, they can burn up. (I included a screenshot of this) If you want to see more effects, just search beryl on youtube or google videos.

If you are running Yodm'3D be advised. It appears their is a Trojan in the installer. There are several other problems with the program causing computer errors and forcing reboots. I am on another site and we are looking into the problems. I will keep everyone updated as we find out more.

Looks good.. what OSs does rocket dock support?

And are there any good skinning apps that support Vista (ultimate)? My windows aero doesn't work anymore  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Cool. My wallpaper is from shiftedreality.com. They have some nice images.

To resize your picture you'll need to use some sort of jpg resizing app. Usually those apps have a quality setting. Set it to about 65%. Your image looks more like 0%. There's some websites online that will resize it for you also, just search around.

It changes all the time but for now I'm a little obsessed with the Sarah Connor Chronicles. Also been trying out Google desktop sidebar over the last couple of days.

I've gotten rid of the dual 19 inch monitors, in favor of a single 28 inch monitor running at 1920x1200.

It was time for a change.

The onscreen clock, weather, cpu and bandwidth guages are customized Rainmeter scripts.

I'm running windows Vista, and used Vista Glazz to allow it to be customizable. I lifted from theme from either deviant art or customize.org.

I just discovered the Royale Noir theme for XP and I'm really liking it. I use Google desktop for my gamertag and gadgets on the right but have disabled all the annoying indexing/search features it comes with.

I've always liked this thread...might as well contribute to it. I have a 4 monitor setup. The left two are Ubuntu with conky. The right two are Vista with samurize. I use one keyboard/mouse/clipboard with synergy to control my desktop (ubuntu) and my laptop (vista).

since switching to vista a few years ago ive been on a big "clean desktop" kick, no icons, everything i use daily is in the quicklaunch and i use the search feature on the start menu to run other programs easily (although from people i talk to, im the only one who like the start menu search, lol)

i have my wallpaper switching between 4 images at the moment, ive been meaning to change them out though, need something fresh
