Title: Hp/lg-hitachi Gdr-8163b Dvd-rom Drive
Post by: hed on April 21, 2006, 07:29:00 AM
I have a thomson dvdrom in my xbox that I want to replace with a better drive. It has to be able to read original xbox games (Main reason I want to replace it.) and DVD-R back u p s. All the other xbox dvdroms I've seen are very expensive, even the samsung pc dvdroms are also to expensive. I've been doing abit of research these last couple days and found out that these drives could be moddified to read xbox games.
I can get a LG-Hitachi GDR-8163B or a Pioneer 500M at a good price. I can't find any tutorial on how to moddify them though. Anyone know where's one? and the firmware required to mod them?
I need to know a.s.a.p. beacuse I'm buying one of them tomorrow! 4/22/06 Most likely the LG-Hitachi GDR-8163B since it's a newer model.
So any info would be greatly appreciated.

Where did you find the 8163b? I've looked everywhere, and I even ordered one, but got sent an 8164b instead! I know NewEgg says they have them in stock, but they don't ship internationally.
