Title: Can I Replace My Samsung With A Thompson Or Phillips?
Post by: stew_bidasso on February 13, 2006, 11:21:00 AM
Hello,

I recently bought a used xbox that works except that the dvd drive is broken.  It originally had a Samsung dvd drive in it, but no matter how I clean it, it still does not accept disks.  I took the samsung drive out of my modded xbox and swapped it into this broken xbox, and it fixed everything, so it just needs a new dvd drive to work like new.

I already have a modded xbox with a samsung drive, so I don't want to spend a ton of money on ebay getting another samsung drive, but I'm not sure if I can just put a thompson or phillips drive in the broken xbox as a replacement (do you have to replace the dvd drive with the original brand that was in it, or can I change it out for a different kind of drive)?

Yes. You can use any drive that came from any xbox...

if its modded with a chip or TSOP flash you can run it without a dvd drive if you like
