-Being on a stupid high floor of a tall building. Even going DOWN 50 flights of stairs is tiring.
-in the middle of sex with an appliance (this would just be annoying)
I suppose anyone being tortured with a device that requried electricity was presently surprised, or anyone in a hostage situation could've gained the upper hand.

My mom was in NY when the power went out, and if it wasn't for a friend of her's wanting to go to a video store before hopping the subway, she would've been stuck in there for God knows how long.
