At this point, no sane third-party developer or publisher is going to release an exclusive for the Xbox given the lower overall demand for Xbox games.
Smart, becuase I'm not buying any more Xbox games.

i been waiting for them to come down on price to put one next to each tv in the house.

I'm the one who sent that tip into Joystiq although what I said exactly was:
QUOTE
I felt the following might be of interest to Joystiq readers, perhaps you can explain it in a more eloquent manner.
I recently decided that I would like to have an Xbox for my upstairs bedroom so that my fiancée can play games that she enjoys such as DDR and Psychonauts. Being that there are very few backwards-compatible games on the 360 (playing halo 2 with garbled voice chat and dropping frame rates doesnt count) I decided that I would go out and purchase a second Xbox system rather than disconnect my Xbox from the home theatre system as I still use it. I have since discovered from numerous store managers that MS has discontinued the core version of the original Xbox. Now instead of paying $149.99 for an Xbox, as one has been able to do since 2003, it is necessary to drop $179.99 for an Xbox packaged with Forza Motor Sport (a game made by MS). Im not really into racing games, but I have played this one and I thought it was pretty bad. There are a lot of racing games out there and most of them are better than Forza. The real kicker is that the only way to buy an Xbox now is to pay $30 more than the system cost for the past 2-3 years just because it is packaged with a first party game that retails for $19.99 (new) because MS didnt sell enough of them. Since when did console makers RAISE the prices of consoles towards the end of their cycle?

I really wanted a second xbox but don't feel I should have to pay the price it cost 3 years ago. Especially for a $19.99 game I dont even want. And I refuse to buy anything used, especially from those scumbags at EB and gamestop. And I dont want to have to end up replacing half the console within a year. What gets me is that Joystiq almost sees nothing wrong with this.
-
Why would MS reduce the price when their not making anymore and the demand is still great???
Let me guess, you guys failed your business classes.
-
why not buy xboxes broken... and fix em... its the scene way.
-
Thats bullcrap, the Xbox is better than Xbox 360, arrrggghh.
-
It's still annoying as hell to need to buy an xbox and not be able to find one for less than $179 locally.. Store don't even have factory refurbished consoles in stock around here anymore either.
FWIW, a local gamestop rep said they were expecting more non-bundled regular xboxs in a month or so.
-
Hello.. Anyone ever heard of a PAWN SHOP? You can get XBOX's for $75-$90 in working condition, my friend recently purchased a Halo version for $80 and it had a Samsung...
-
The only thing than really make me sad about this theory is than capcom is going to release RE4, DMC3, Onimusha 3 and Megaman X8 for the PC but there isn't any new about it on the xbox. Is ultra sad because with very little effort from M$ those games, or at least RE4 (than the xbox is the only system without one of the most popular games out there), would be on the xbox.
-
Man the only thing i cant understand is the title of this tread....
Why's the original Xbox cost more now?
For my 2 cents I think us as consumers know the power of the
original xbox... making it when MS told us that they stoped producing them
made them instantly go up in price... Now its a hotter product,
I mean really how much is my Unwrapped Atari worth?

Me too. One for each TV, and a couple of spares, or maybe linux boxes. I am thinking of trying to find used ones with duff DVD players. Don't need the DVD, everything over ethernet/

they are in a nutshell. They are putting controls on things that people want to buy. Nobody wants 360s because they cost an arm and a leg. When they finally run out of options they will come wining saying that somehow the market made them do this.
I really hate what MS is doing with consoles now. They used to be dependable, but now they are just trying to get the newest and more expensive consoles out there. They are screwing up on this just like they are screwing up on Win XP.
I hate MS.
If nobody wants a 360 then why are they always sold out as fast as the stores get them?
And how are they screwing up on Win XP? How many PC on the world are using win XP? I say they are doing anything but screwing up XP.

Well, being a GameStop lackie, working for my $5.15, slaving my ass off for the GameStop man, I can say this. New Xboxes are no longer sold for < $170. Why? Because it's packaged with a shitass game that M$ printed too many of and needs to liquidate. Their genious plan for this would be cramming it down your throat and overpricing their systems. As for the $129 Xboxes, haha good luck finding one in America...

this is why they are going up in price. supply is falling but i think demand is steady. i think demand might actually be increasing as the world finds out what they can do with a modified xbox. i saw this coming about 6 months ago, so i purchased my second xbox for $100 (with shipping) on ebay. i was hoping this would NOT happen. i would kinda like to get another one, but to be honest...i would just be hoarding. 2 is enough for now.
i think the assumption that M$ is purposely and directly behind the price increase is unfounded. M$ is concerned with 360 now. they don't won't to have to fool around with xbox1 anymore. M$ is prolly selling xbox1s to the retailers and resellers for the same price (if not lower) just to get the darn things off their hands. it's the retailers and resellers that are trying to take advantage of the falling supply vs. steady (or increasing) demand. is that so evil? should they burn in hell? if you answered yes, you are a hippocrit.

Just one thing passed by everybody:the source. Since when joystiq is press? Just look to the "genius" that gave the tip (to the clueless) poor fanboy-news called joystiq: "Forza is a bad racing game"...
Heloooooo, XBOX w/o forza bundle is sold ooooouuutt... that's why you can only find bundleeeess... for god sakes, sometimes is hard to have the patience for the dee,dee,dees...
I sent in the tip and if you read you will see that I simply explain that I am not into racing games and felt that there were better racing games out there to choose from. Needless to say I have never purchased a racing game, save Wipeout pure for the PSP but that was purely for the web browser. The entire point of me writing in to Joystiq was to determine whether it was indeed true that MS was no longer making core Xbox 1's and to ask why the Xbox with Forza cost $10 more than a core Xbox with Forza purchased separately.
