Title: Do The V1.0/1.1 Foxlink Psu's Have Any Kid Of Fuse?
Post by: 00g on January 29, 2006, 12:47:00 PM
I was working on a V1.1 yesterday, and it stopped powering up.
I don't think anything even touched the power supply, there was no noise, no smoke etc....
So I swapped it for my V1.0's PSU, and now the Xbox works.....so before I dish out the money for a new PSU, is there a fuse or somehting on this thing I can check/replace?

Yes, Foxlink power supplies have a fuse that you can replace.
This tutorial shows where it is located, and how to replace it.

I appreciate the quick response.
The PSU pictured appears to be different from mine.
I have an object that's heat shrinked in the same area as the fuse in the picture, but mine doesn't look like and fuse I've ever seen.
In either case. I checked the points under this object for continuity, and got nothing.
Here's a pic

I think that the orange cylindrical object is your power supply's fuse, because it has a rating for voltage and amperage.
The object that's heatshrinked should be a capacitor.

Yeah, I think you may be right, because one of the legs is on a pad that's only shared with one of main plugs leads.
So if there's no continuity between that orange cylindrical thing, than there would be no connection between one of the leads from the power plug, and the rest of the PSU.

Correct. By the way, whats with the name 'double ought gauge'? Have stretchers in or something?

That's a 4 amp fuse but what you'll find is that unless you repair the psu it will just blow the fuse again. Try etech4sale.com for a $10 refurb psu. They refurb these and I've been to their shop and $10 for a psu is a great price.

Yeah, I googled the Foxlink model number and found them earlier this evening. $17 shipped.
I know I said nothing touched the PSU, but it's just really hard to believe the PSU worked fine for years, and then right when I had it apart, it just failed on me.
I'm at a loss for what could have happened.....but throwing a new fuse in there can't hurt.
I'm sure I won't be able to find the same type of fuse....so if I were to rig up a glass fuse, is there any certain type of wire I should be using?

Not really, as long as it's 22 AWG or thicker.
