Title: Most Under-appreciated Game
Post by: KazuyaWaruasobi on January 24, 2003, 05:49:00 PM
There have been a bunch of games out there that were given some crappy reviews or got lost in the flood of games with more publicity. I'd like to know which games you think are really good, but got unfair reviews or got lost.

I just bought Phantom Crash, and I friggin' love it!! I've only had it for a few days and it's already one of my favourite games! Really good graphics, great gameplay, good music, insane customizability (you can buy songs in the game and add them to custom playlists), really good maps, and it's a mech game!! It kicks ass!!  laugh.gif It's got that furious fast-paced mech-action that MechAssault is so popular because of, but it also has loads of micro-management. Some people might not like the idea of micro-management, but it's actually a good thing in this game. You can buy and sell any part of your mech (called Scoobee's), and there are even sentient AI CHIPS that help you lock-onto targets and converse with you. Even THOSE are completely customizable! This game got a couple mediocre reviews when it came out a while back, but I love it, and I'm sure many others will. It's not for everybody, but it'd by far the best mech-game I've played for the Xbox. . .

DEATHROW, there is no doubt about that. the game was very good and wasn't really discussed anywhere. it's a classic futuristic sports game where u can have the option of just kicking ass all day. highly ignored but not underated by sites just the users.

Although I dont have it myself - JSRF.  It did get a high rating here, but hardly any1 bought it.  I think it just got a bit tiresome for some after a while.

Metal Dungeon.
Yes, I know that everyone is going to say it sucked, and it is a bit dry, but to me (can't explain why), it reminds me of PSO. I like PSO.

I have heard a lot of negative feedback regarding the game Transworld Surf.

I don't know if it is just because there are so many gamers out there who don't surf (and don't understand the game), or if people just really think it sucks.  I guess that you shouldn't have to surf to be able to tell if a game is fun or not, but when you can ride in the barrell of HUGE waves that suck up over insanely sharp reefs, and pull monster airs at places that you would never dream of trying to catch air at in the real world, well, it just seems more enjoyable.

I often see the game used for 14.99 and I can't help but think that this is an absolute bargain.  If any of you have any inkling of an interest in surfing, check this game out.  BTW, I haven't played the Kelly Slater surfing game yet, but that got a bad wrap too (deservedly?).

Jet Set Willy originally came out in late 1983 for the ZX Spectrum, and was a development of an earlier Spectrum game called "Manic Miner", itself an adaptation of a game for the Atari called "Miner 2049'er". To a generation of computer users, it's an undeniable classic.

This game was a huge success for ZX Spectrum, because of this the unit started to sell more and that was the start of home gaming as we know it. The game got me hooked back then, while by today's standards it's somewhat primitive and ridiculously simple to play, it still manages to amuse, delight and frustrate me years on.

I wouldn’t say it was the Most Under-appreciated Game, but I think some younger people today don’t appreciate how they got there X-Box/Game Cube/PlayStation 1 or 2, if classic games like this had not been created there would have not been a home console market like there is today.

Im getting old?

I love this game, yet all my friends cap on it.  The dancing characters put them out..........that's just cuz they are a bunch of homophobes with no rhythm!

Tobal 2

Yeah Gackt but it was only because Tobal "1" sucked so much ass nobody gave it a shot! laugh.gif

Shadow Hearts - PS2

This game that really did not receive much hype and unfornatley was launch around the time Final Fantasy X so most people over looked it.

I thought it was a decent game.  No matter how bad the critics trashed it.

TransWorld Snowboarding.  WAY WAY better than Amped.   Got it on the day it came out and it was easily the game I played most this holiday season.  The handling on the board and riders is near spot on.  Aside from some minor graphical glitches it's also the best looking snowboard game yet.  It got VERY mediocre reviews from IGN and GameSpot - which really leads me to believe that they were reviewing an unfinished product.  At least my copy isn't as bad as they say.

I dissmissed JSRF as being a bit too cheesy and some of the music was too anyoying. But my daughter thinks its the best game ever, and my youngest daughter loves to play with the paintbrush program thats built in to design new graffitti (which I never knew about).

The stupid proffesor K dickweed is what turns most people off the game. not cool, not retro, just LAME!!!

My thing!, er, The Thing, great game, freaky, made me wanna watch the movie, then of course i had to pick out the little differences, but man the first level is crazy on how much detail they paid to the 80s movie.
There's supposed to be a possible sequel to the game too i hear.
