Title: Ebgames
Post by: Knuck3ls on January 17, 2003, 09:01:00 PM
Well, today I went in there with a friend I haven't talked to in a while, and he was looking at buying some Xbox games. So I told him about my modded Xbox with games I can copy to the HD, etc..

So, the clerk comes over and I suppose he was eavesdropping, and said we shouldn't be talking about this in the store, so among other things... *cough* fuck off...

He said he didn't have too, for one, and that you can't even open an Xbox "yet." So I asked him how they repaired them if they were broken; "Well MS has the tools to open it"; "So I couldn't get ahold of those tools, eh?"; "No, of course not"

So, I asked if I could use his computer, he said ok, and I took him to Xbox-Scene.com and showed him all the pictures of how to fully open an Xbox console that can't be opened, needless to say his face got quite red, and when I walked out, I had to give him a big:

the guys in gamecrazy are the same way, they tried to tell me you couldn't mod an xbox yet, and this was like last week.  i didn't go as far to take them to xbox-scene.com but it was still pretty funny, even my old lady laughed at them, it was a good time.   beerchug.gif

Hmm... I hope in the process of navigating to xbox-scene.com you also showed him what a web-browser is, how to type in a url, and how to use the mouse to click on hyperlinks.

Maybe if we are lucky he will stumble across the "Search" abilities of the web sometime soon.

Oh yeah, you should have told him about NES ROMS, that would have fried his puny little mind. "You mean, people can just get these games for free, they don't have to buy them from us for $10 a piece?"

i'm not sure, you can go to gamecrazy.com and type in your address and it will tell you if there is one by you, but i'm pretty sure it is only in the u.s.  they had refurbs on sale for $149 from oct. - christmas, i think i bought 8 xbox's in that time from them to mod and sell to people here in az.   beerchug.gif

Nope, none by me.

BTW, I wasn't too fond of entering a full address in....they probably sold it to some credit card company so I can get more and more offers!  grr.gif

My EB asked me questions which led to me modding his system.  He was a real cool guy and he takes care of me everytime I am looking for some games.  Give a little get a little is my new motto.

Most people who work in EB/GAME shops think they are game programmers just because they work with games.

It's the same principle with PC World.  If you know anything about computers, you don't work for rubbish money at PC World.

Well, i am in australia here ... but i do experience what you guys are saying around here, ... when we talked about a game that's in the US , they say it's not coming here, some don't even know about xblive, some thinks they are so good and smart that they tried to advise you on how to set up ur xbox etc etc... but i guess modchips are sort of a 'evil' word here still hehe...

Pc/computer resellers are sort of the same, ... prefer to go to those small shops that do not have huge signs saying 'pc supermarket' or etc, ... generally i find those guys there to be more knowledgeable...

Then again, i guess at times u can't blame them if workers/employees there are not even xbox owner themselves... they just market/advertise and sell them!... problems/returns ---> they send it back to M$ for credit! ... hehhee...

Save ur middle finger to some cheaparses that offer to mod your xbox for 125 Australian Dollars ( 60+ dollars), "including installation" when what the dickhead does is just flash your TSOP with his MAtrix! ... got a few friends who just wouldn't listen to me ! lol

felt sorry for them
I opened their xboxes and said, hey u don't hav a chip, and know what?... one told me the guy showed him the chip he 'apparently' installed ----> NVIDIA GPU!!!!
We decided to go back to the sunday market where he found that dickhead, well, apparently he's gone and his stall has been taken over by his 'friend' who told us that he's gone back to his home country, wherever that is

Well I work for the UK company Game, which was formarly part of EB USA (not anymore).

I have worked here for 3 years and ever since I started, have always been up to date on the modding scene, from the old PSX/PSone/PS2/Xbox.

The thing that really winds me up though... smart-ass customers who think that we 'Assistants' don't know fuck all about modding. So when people mention doing something like that, most people deny any knowledge of it, but not me. I wouldn't openly tell people to (or where to) get their machines modded, but I always give the smart fuckers hassle and end up totally mystifying them cus it goes over their heads, and giving them other bullshit that makes them sorry they even mentioned it!

So yeah, some people will talk shit like they don't know if you can get a machine open etc... but they are just giving excuses cus they aren't supposed to talk about it. I, however can get away with it cus I am part of management for our store (and have chipped the machines of most of our staff),

Regards

Someone knew thier stuff, i was gonna buy a second xbox and mod it for a friend. Now this is at target, right when the V1, 1.1 switch happened. I pulled it out of the box @ the counter to check the date & m/o to get a vauge idea of which version i was buying (this is before it was an exact science). I didn't even have to tell the electronics guy what i was looking for, he just said "im saving whats left of the last strictly v1 shipment for this." and when i made it clear i knew what he ment he got one out of the back. I gave him about $20 extra. what a nice guy.

So not all of the service industry is a buch of wankers lol.
